2 MAIN ONGOING PROJECT Competition, Accountability, and Private Military Industry in Civil Wars, book manuscript, under review, with Seden Akcinroglu Why do private military companies (PMCs) sometimes help with conflict termination while in other cases their intervention is associated with prolonged wars? What are the conditions under which PMCs promote long-term stability and reconciliation after the fighting ends? Relying on interviews with industry employees and quantitative analysis of original data on PMCs' involvement in civil wars from , our book investigates how variation in market competition affects accountability of PMCs in conflict zones and the impact it has on the termination of wars and the survival of peace.
