2 The Guardian Criminal Justice Summit Prisons, probation and the press under examination Why attend? The last year has seen tremendous change across the criminal justice system, including the split of the Home Office and the creation of the Ministry of Justice. But where is all this change taking us? There are persistent claims that legislative hyperactivity is actually making it more difficult to tackle crime, yet more laws are already in the pipeline that will reshape the way justice is delivered. Our prisons are having to cope with unprecedented numbers and are struggling to meet the target to make 240m of efficiency savings. Meanwhile, the probation service is facing challenges that are unprecedented in its 100-year history. This summit looks at the implication of the changes and how they should be addressed. It will also create a forum for people to discuss where justice should be going, the kind of criminal justice system that is needed, and what works best to reduce reoffending and to protect the public. Who should attend? This event is aimed at anyone who is interested in rebalancing the criminal justice system and strengthening the links in the criminal justice chain. The audience will consist of leading figures from the legal profession, senior policy makers and representatives from the police, probation and prison services. Chief officers and commissioners from the police force Prison governors Chief probation officers Independent monitoring boards and the prison and probation ombudsmen Senior advocates, solicitors and members of the Bar Heads of youth justice Policy makers from the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office, the Department of Constitutional Affairs Senior administrators of Her Majesty s Court Service and representatives of the Judiciary Heads of voluntary sector agencies and criminal justice/crime reduction/penal reform charities Consultants and criminal justice service providers Register today at: guardian.co.uk/criminaljusticesummit
