I am able to work on my own initiative or as part of a team, having collaborated extensively with colleagues in the DIT, other Irish universities and many institutions aboard. I have a proven track record in research, publication, and teaching, and am dedicated to maintaining high standards in all three areas. I have won three IRCHSS research scholarships, having been both a doctoral and postdoctoral IRCHSS research fellow. I have conducted two postdoctoral research projects, and hold membership in the Political Studies Association of Ireland, the Political Studies Association (UK), and the American Political Science Association and the Midwest Political Studies Association. I have consulted with and advised the Irish, Czech, UK, EU and Scottish, governments on issues surrounding lobbying, its regulation and matters to do with transparency and accountability in government. With my research collaborators, I have appeared before various committee of these governments. I have also worked closely with civil servants in the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform on the development of the governments Registration of Lobbying Bill (2014). I am a founding director of the DIT Business, Society and Sustainability Research Centre. I am a co-author of Regulation Lobbying: A Global Comparison and I have recently edited the volumes 1

2 Irish Business and Society which examined the politics and economics of contemporary Ireland and Approaches to Qualitative Research: A Guide for Dissertation Students. I research public policy (theory and practice) and also focus on lobbying policy development and implementation. CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS: Comparative analysis of lobbying regulation around the world Comparative analysis of policy change and evolution in Europe, North and South America from 1945 to the present. Ways to develop a better understanding of policy change through a critical juncture framework in the field of historical institutionalism. Founding member and Director of the DIT Business, Society and Sustainability Research Centre, which is focused on critical and creative analysis at the intersections of politics, society and business. Postdoctoral research with Mr. Des Moore, Head of School of Business and Humanities, Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, (January September 2005). This research was conducted for the ESB. Doctoral Research The Critical Junctures Approach Remoulded: Explaining Change in Trade Union Influence Over Public Policy in Four Countries. This IRCHSS PhD scholarship supported thesis improved understanding of the critical junctures concept through a comparative analysis of change in trade union peak organisations influence over public policy. Masters research. This IRCHSS Masters scholarship supported thesis examined the evolution of a trade union from 1670 to It uncovered a previously, and universally, discounted link between the ancient guilds of Dublin and the later trade unions.
