When someone visits MRNY for the first time, often at the recommendation of a neighbor, school teacher, or co-worker, we seek to help them meet their most basic needs, identify ways to structurally address the problem, and then foster their commitment and ability to help lead efforts to win broad, tangible community improvement. 1,200 youth Through MRNY s in-school and after-school programming, 1,200 young people organized to improve their schools and communities, 150 created arts and media projects and 750 got the support and resources they needed to apply to college. The CPD MoDel CPD uses a collaborative model: we work with a wide range of progressive partners located throughout the United States base-building community organizations, labor unions, faith institutions, organizing networks and alliances, policy organizations and elected officials. Our approach catalyzes high-impact change by supporting the vital campaign work of our partner organizations while simultaneously working with them to build stronger and more effective institutions for justice. BUILDING A NATIONAL PROGRESSIVE MUNICIPAL NETWORK Local Progress brings together local elected officials from across the country to create more just and equitable cities. The network aims to share best practices, policies and strategies. CPD helped coordinate the founding gathering of the network and will provide ongoing campaign, legal and policy support. Public Leadership Institute WAREHOUSE WORKER ORGANIZING Wage theft, unsafe working conditions, and labor law violations are rampant in many of the large warehouses that store goods in transit to large big box stores like Walmart. CPD is providing legal, organizing and fundraising support to the workers centers organizing this workforce in the three major U.S. hubs for goods movement. Warehouse Workers United Warehouse Workers for Justice New Labor Change to Win COMMUNITY RADIO PROJECT CPD is working with local partners to replicate the successful community radio station, Radio Movimiento, run by PCUN, Oregon s union of farmworkers. Community radio can dramatically expand outreach, recruitment, community education, and mobilization capacity in low-income and immigrant communities. Working with Prometheus Radio, CPD is supporting local partners to initiate the process of creating community-run radio stations across the country. Prometheus Radio PCUN COMBATTING WAGE THEFT Building on our successful work to strengthen New York State law, CPD is providing legal and strategy support on campaigns across the country to combat wage theft, address industry-specific labor law violations, and improve agency enforcement of minimum wage and overtime laws. As part of this initiative, CPD coordinated a fall campaign to educate tens of thousands of voters about Pennsylvania s regressive voter ID law, and to register 7,200 Latino and African American voters in Reading and Allentown, PA. BUILDING ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY CPD is collaborating with partners across the country on projects to develop and implement membership structures, support formal mergers of allied organizations, develop new revenue generation initiatives, build leadership development programs, and enhance data management systems.
