12 Large range of cultures, ethnicity, age, gender and ability From over 160 countries 40% of total international student population are from India and China International students make up 20-30% of the student population 45 % University (100,000) 30% Vocational, Education, Training 20% ELICOS and other (English Language Courses)

14 First time young people are away from family and friends Study commitments and late working hours resulting in late night travel on public transport or walking home Vulnerability which may lead to exploitation in work or living arrangements Living in shared accommodation arrangements often with total strangers. The transient nature of their stay in Australia and Experience of policing from home country.

27 Engagement - Wollongong call me campaign..authentic and sustainable Issue - Student safety on campus(communication) NSWPF compiled safety messages Uni of Wollongong said nice message bad delivery (Consultation) Uni and police consulted with design and communications students Students then formed messages to reflect the safety tips created by police (Participation) Campaign resulted in communication and design students re created messages, developed graphics and pictures and planned with police implementation plan. Messages on sign boards, posters, placements, drink bottles etc (Engagement)

33 Community engagement for me, should be effective and meaningful. It s about forging relationships in good times, with the right people, who have the influence to get to the heart of the community in a time of crisis.
