3 GSM (General Skilled Migration Program) - Points-based system - Assesses individuals based on age, English level, past experience and qualifications SOL (Skilled Occupation List) - A list of occupations that Australia allows migrants to claim experience and education in for the country GSM program. MODL (Migration Occupations in Demand List) - Identifies occupations to be allocated extra points under the point test GSM General Skilled Migration Program Purpose: To bring in migrants to meet Australia s growing labour market needs and skills shortages Significance: In 2006/2007 Skilled migrants (97,920) accounting for over 65% of the total migration program (148,200) Result: Average age of skilled migrants: 31 years Top occupations: Accountancy (10,688), Computing Professionals (4,044) and Registered Nurses (2,088)
