2 Rahul Kamtam 1 February 5, 2014 From: Rahul Kamtam, Ward Monitor. To: Mayoral Candidates, Toronto and Greater Toronto Area. Ref: Invitation to Mayoral Candidates Event - Feb Venue: University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus, 1276 Military Trail, Student Centre Building, Rex's Den Event Space. Please see Exhibit A: Invitation to Mayoral Candidate Event and Exhibit A: THE NEW YORK TIMES In Struggling Cities, Immigrants Welcome I am Rahul Kamtam, a Canadian citizen and resident of The Municipality of Toronto. I represent Ward Monitor, a politically neutral platform, officially registered under the national non-profit umbrella organization. Ward Monitor is the national platform that represents several community organizations, and its mission is to provide a voice to the public by bringing their issues to the different members of parliament (provincial and federal), to city Councillors, to community leaders, and to business leaders. The Organization is committed to being politically neutral by avoiding any corruption from any side. But we are not just neutral; we work hard to unite Canadians through transparent cooperation with all parties. Links for your review: Contents are not final and subject to change. Work is in progress. According to Statistics Canada, 255,650 new immigrants settled in Toronto between this number represents 34.7 % of all immigrants to Canada during that period. If the next 7 years including 2010 are considered, the figure will grow to nearly 1 million. Retrieved from Presently new immigrants cannot vote in the municipal elections. Yet, they are a big part of the local workforce. The majority of new immigrants choose Toronto as their new home. Ward Monitor is working on a proposal to reform the Toronto city election s voting rights to allow new immigrants to vote in the municipal elections. City elections are mandated to be non-partisan and to represent the public. New immigrant future citizens should have a voice in their own ward. As Mayoral candidates: Do you support this initiative? How? If not, why not? Regards, Rahul Kamtam, Ward Monitor Kamtam.Rahul@gmail.com Toronto: MY-WARD

5 Rahul Kamtam 4 Rahul Kamtam Biography The big move Rahul grew up in Mumbai, India. He immigrated to Canada on August 15, 2007, and chose to settle in Toronto. He always had an interest in helping others, and when Rahul moved to Toronto he sought to help those in need. He didn't yet know who he'd be helping or how he would do it. Volunteering Rahul began volunteering in politics while still in India, and when the opportunity to volunteer for the local elections campaign presented itself, he took it. The hours were long, the work was hard: for nearly a year Rahul walked door-to-door listening to Canadians speak about the challenges they face. From listening to taking action Rahul's volunteering did not stop with the elections campaign, and he continued to become involved in local politics through different volunteer roles. Rahul volunteered with both Liberal and Conservative candidates. He worked with university student organizations in order to understand the issues faced by Canada's future leaders, and in 2009 he was ready to take action. His first order of business was to help legal immigrants overcome discriminatory government policies, and as a result of Rahul's efforts, the Office of The Ombudsman took measures to change official career related policies that deal with the way immigrants are integrated into the Canadian workforce. This is one of many accomplishments Rahul achieved in recent years. The mission The hard work taught him a valuable lesson: many issues that are important to Canadian voters are ignored by the policy makers in power. He finally knew what he must do: reform is needed to ensure that key community issues are heard by the decision makers. The road ahead In 2013 Rahul officially registered the national non-profit umbrella organization Ward Monitor. Ward Monitor is the national platform that represents several community organizations that are currently being registered by Rahul and his team of volunteers. These community organizations will create an ongoing dialogue between community members and policy makers of all levels of government. This dialogue is not just a conversation: every organization within the Ward Monitor network is created to take action from its inception. Ward Monitor empowers communities. Ward Monitor, platform: Ward Monitor is designed to serve as a platform for experiential live projects (local and international) for professionals, students, internationally educated professionals, and new immigrants, in areas such as information technology, criminal law, environment and renewable energy, human rights, data analysis, research and opinion polls, bilateral trade, and international politics. This initiative will help in forming mentorships and ease students' transition into the workforce. Ward Monitor's scope is global: Canada, USA, India, Australia, England, and other countries in which wards are the smallest unit of electoral riding. This approach will allow Ward Monitor to connect young local talent with the global market.
6 Rahul Kamtam 5 Moving Onward with You from Ward Monitor, As-Is to Ward Monitor, To-Be: The foundation of the Ward Monitor platform is ready. Currently we are in the process of building a team through mutual partnerships to take action.
