GPMC NEWS The Greater Pittsburgh Mustang Club Newsletter Visit our website at http://www.gpmc.org/ Volume 27 Issue 5 May, 2012 Next Meeting May 2, King s Restaurant, Harmarville On Old Route 28, just north of 910 Board Meeting 7:00 pm, General Meeting 7:30 pm Greetings Pony Lovers Tomorrow is the big day for me. It s the day I dig our Mustang out of its winter slumber and get her ready for the road. Hopefully it will only take one day for our mechanic to get her into shape. It s always suspenseful when you first reconnect the battery after five months and pray it will start when you turn the key. The Spring Brunch Tour on Sunday, May 6 th is nearly booked up. At this point we only have room for a couple more cars. After those spaces are taken we ll put you on a waiting list in case there are any cancellations. Unfortunately the restaurant has very limited seating, so we can only accommodate so many. Please let me know by 4/25 at the latest if you d like to come. We re still looking to receive registration forms and the final Can-Am weekend agenda from LEMOC. The sample agenda they ve provided so far looks like they have an action packed weekend planned for July 13-15. The latest word is that Starlite is a Go for this year. We plan to attend a volunteer planning meeting at the Northway Church on April 26 th, when we hope to find out exactly what s this year s plan. At this point we re assuming that we re still on for Mus tang night on June 22 nd and our volunteer night in July. The night of their first cruise is May 25 th. Also, the Ultimate Cruise at Pittsburgh Mills Mall kicks off their weekly cruise season on May 16 th. I m sure many of our members will be there. Membership levels continue to grow, as we ve added more new members in just the past week. Mary just emailed everyone the second quarter edition of our membership directory. Please let her know if you didn t receive your copy. By my count we re up to 73 member families. We had another standing room only turnout for our April meeting. May is always a tough call whether or not to hold the meeting outdoors. Some years it s nice, and other years we ve had snow flurries. So to be safe, we ll hold our last indoor meeting of the 2011-12 winter season at King s in Harmarville on May 2 nd. At the last meeting the waitress said they wanted to see some Mustangs in the parking lot, so if it s a nice night, let s not disappoint! Keep those motors runnin, Ken

GPMC NEWS May 2012 Page 2 Minutes of April 4, 2012 Combined Board and General Meeting The combined meeting was called to order by Ken B., President, at 7:30 PM, at King s Restaurant, Harmarville. The sign-in sheet was passed around, and the 50/50 was sold by Jeff. New Members and Guests: Alan and Brenda H. are guests and new members and they have a 2004 Red GT. Minutes: The March 7, 2012 Meeting Minutes were reviewed. It was moved by Ed S. and 2 nd by Mike D. to approve the minutes. Motion carried. Correspondence: None. Treasurer's Report- March: Jason U. reviewed income and expenses. Income consisted of Dues Renewals, MCA Dues, Merchandise Sales, and 50/50 Raffle. Expenses were to State Farm for our annual general liability insurance premium. It was moved by Andrew T. and 2 nd by Carl C. to approve the Treasurer s Report. Motion carried. Membership: Mary reported that we have three new members since our last meeting: Nigel and Susan B. (1965 Coupe), Tim B. (2012 GT Convertible), Scott and Carol U. (2007 Coupe), and Alan and Brenda H. (GT Convertible) who signed up tonight. The next quarterly Membership Directory update will be going out this week or next. Newsletter: Andrew reported he is working on a new design. Hopefully it will be available at the next issue. The dead-line for the May Newsletter is April 15. Send photos, articles, and event info to him at gpmc.newsletter@yahoo.com. Merchandise: John reported the new iron-on patches are in and cost $4.00 each. Pink ladies shirts and blue men s shirts are available. A record amount of items was sold last month. Webmaster: Jennie reported we continue to have a lot of page views on the website, an average of about 75 per day, and spiking to 300-400 on days following events, meetings, etc. The number of page views is not an indication of the number of visitors to the site. One person looking at 20 pages, photos, etc. counts as 20 views, the same as 20 people each looking at only one page. The Announcements page has up-to-the-minute information on events, like the Spring Brunch Tour to Saltsburg on May 6. This is the go-to page to learn about new events, and changes to the schedule, such as cancellations. Check out the Member Car Corral, and submit a photo of your car if you don't see it there. TRCCC: For Ron, Ken reported that a meeting was held on March 19. MCA: Ed reported on the Grand National. Mustangs at the Mickyard Grand National -- GRAND NATIONAL 2013-August 29 September 1, 2013 Orlando, FL: Lodging reservations will be available at the host hotel The Coronado starting April 17, 2012. Call the Coronado at 1.407.938.4868. The discounted rate is $99.00 per room, per night plus taxes. You must use code #G0605618. The rate is good from Aug. 26, 2013 to and including Sept. 5, 2013. It is approximately 971 miles and 16 hours 24 minutes from Pittsburgh. The MCA National BOD meeting was held on Jan. 22 and the next meeting is scheduled for April 14. At the end of 2011 MCA had 11,622 members. The following 2014 National Shows were approved: August 8-10 Lincoln NB; Oct 9-12 Savannah, GA. Ed reminded members of the MCA dues. If you already joined, please give him your membership number. Activities/Event Wrap-up: Dwight mentioned that the Irwin Chamber of Commerce is having its annual car cruise on April 28 from 10:30 to 3:30. The cost is $8 in advance and $10 the day of the cruise. Dwight updated the members on the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival/Winery Tour - Sept. 7-9, 2012. Fourteen cars are registered. Upcoming Events: Listed in the newsletter and on the website. Ken reported on the Spring Brunch Tour scheduled for Sunday, May 6. We will leave from the Waterworks Mall in Aspinwall at 9:30 AM heading to Saltsburg, PA (Rte. 286 east, north of Rte. 22). Members in the eastern area can meet up with tour along the way. Members can visit the museum, gift shop, etc. Brunch will be at the Olde Salt Restaurant in Saltsburg, followed by a stop at Raspberry Acres Winery outside of Blairsville. Please let Ken know by April 15 if you will be attending. After that date, he will invite the North Hills Historic Auto Club to join us. Once we reach capacity, names will be added to a waiting list. Regarding the CanAm in Erie, the date was changed to July 13-15, so as not to conflict with our All Ford Show. The host hotel is the Rodeway Inn at the Travel America truck stop on I-90. The rate is $70. The Erie club is firming up the agenda for the weekend. The activities to date are: cruise on Friday evening, self-directed touring on Saturday morning, Lake Erie Speedway Saturday afternoon and evening, and the brunch on Sunday.

GPMC NEWS May 2012 Page 3 Ken reported on the Vintage Grand Prix scheduled for July 21-22. Regarding the parking spaces that we purchased last year, the PVGP is grandfathering the price for previous participants. The cost for two spaces is now $300, rather than $400. Ken requested a motion to reserve two spaces for $300. It was moved by Mark Mu. and 2 nd by Bob K. to purchase two spaces. Motion carried. We will get two slots for the patron parade. Ken will work on the arrangements later. Ed reported on The 14 th All Ford-Powered Show: Sunday June 10, 2012, Shults Ford in Harmarville, and called The Tom Cavataio Memorial Show. The $10 registration is due by June 8 th - $12 afterwards. Flyers are now available. Regarding the Basket raffles, this year we are requesting prepared baskets only, no small individual items. Several items can be put in the basket or bucket. Cheryl needs to have items wrapped and ready to go to put on raffle table. Dwight mentioned that preparation for the show will be on Friday, June 8. Also discussed were the issues of tents for visitors and some negative comments regarding our policy this year of not using tents. Ed mentioned possibly doing two car cruises, one in July and the second in August. This would require the club to pay for insurance. Regarding Starlite, the final dates are June 22 for Mustang Night and July 27 for Starlite Service Night. Old Business: None New Business: Ken Br. mentioned that Zelienople has an annual July 4 th parade that includes vintage cars. The lineup begins at 10:00 AM. Dwight will coordinate with Ken on this. The club will get MCA points for parade participation. Also, Jason D. reported Lower Burrell will have its annual Carnival on June 6-9, 2012 and the local Fire Department wants to have a car show on the 9 th. There was a discussion if anyone would be interested in judging the cars. The cars will be divided in some form of classes. The June 6 th meeting will be held at North Park. Because the 1 st Wed. in July is the holiday, the July meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 11. The Hospitality Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, August 5, Pavilion #3 (same as last year) at Monroeville Park. Bill and ValJean R. will chair the event. Other: Jennie won the 50/50. Next meeting will be held on Wed., May 2, 2012 at King s, Harmarville, at 7:00 PM. Adjournment: It was moved by Mark Mo. and 2 nd by Carl C. to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. The Basket Raffle is always a popular part of the car show, and it brings in some decent money as well. Some of the great baskets we've had in recent years: -DeLallo Italian Foods basket. -Mexican party basket: Margarita mix, glasses, chips, salsa, cheese dip. -Red, White & Blue: patriotic picnic goods in a big stars & stripes bowl. -Car Detailing buckets are always a hit. -Kids' bucket or box full of bubbles, jump rope, sidewalk chalk, etc Items in the baskets can be Dollar Store stuff; new but unwanted gifts or prizes you've received, craft items you make, BOGO items you don't need two of, or a donation from your company if you're a business owner. (Talk to Ed if you need a donation letter on club letterhead.) Baskets can be buckets, bowls, boxes, tote bags, whatever. However, last year we had so many items donated that we had a hard time finding room on the tables for all of them. And we had no containers to gather loose items. So perhaps this year some of you can team up to make a gift basket...use that club directory! I only ask that you let me know, by email ( cherylb103@verizon.net ) or phone (412-318-4205) that you are doing a basket, and then bring it either Goody Bag nite (TBA) or directly to the show, as I don't have room to store the stuff before the show! Thanks in advance for your help! ---Cheryl Bakaj
