WEST HARVEY-DIXMOOR SCHOOL DISTRICT 147 BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2013 A regular meeting of the Board of Education, School District #147 was held on Monday, November 4, 2013, at the Elmer G. Kich Elementary School, 191 West 155 th Place, Harvey, Illinois. C. Smith Present MEMBER Present ALSO PRESENT: SUPERINTENDENT BUSINESS MANAGER Dr. Bethel E. Cager Tonisha Sibley RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS EXCEEDING ISAT TESTS, Board President, and Dr. Bethel E. Cager, Superintendent, presented certificates of achievement to students in the district that met or excelled on their 2012 ISAT tests in Reading and Math. In total, 30 students in the district were awarded certificates of achievement. PLAN FOR PEST MANAGEMENT IN SCHOOLS Dr. Cager explained the bed bug situation at Washington and Rosa Parks Schools. Dr. Cager distributed a timeline of events relating to the bed bug issue. She asked the Board what should the next steps be in order to remedy the problem., Board Secretary, expressed concern on why all Board members were not involved in making the decision for Terminex servicing the schools., Board Vice-President, stated the bed bug situation has to be taken care of immediately., Board Member, also expressed concern over the bed bug situation. Board President,, addressed the questions and concerns raised by the Board members. CITIZENS INQUIRY Wayne Tellis, resident of Harvey, congratulated the students who received recognition on their achievement. He again expressed concern over the condition of the boys restroom in the Primary section of Lincoln School and inquired on when improvements will be made., Dixmoor resident and Board member, announced the annual Boyd family coat drive, which to date, has distributed over 500 coats to those in need. This year, 280 coats are expected to be distributed to families. Ms. Chapman stated donations can be given to Dr. Cager,, or Janelle Strong., Harvey resident and Board member, stated there would be a pre-thanksgiving dinner for anyone who wished to attend on November 17, 2013 from 12:00 4:00 p.m. at South Suburban College. Tammy Hennis, Harvey resident, thanked the Board of Education for providing tutorial services to her daughter, a student at Rosa Parks School, and niece, student at King School. Ms. Hennis inquired how to 1
find her daughter s ISAT scores? Dr. Cager responded Ms. Hennis should speak with her daughter s principal.
