STAFF NOTE PRESENTER: Betty Sims SUBJECT: Mercer County Schools 2010-2011 Calendar Amendment & Graduation INTRODUCTION: Mercer County School District has missed 11 student instructional days due to inclement weather during this school year, and has had two 1- hour delays and 1 early dismissal day. The calendar committee would like the board to approve using banked instructional time to allow three additional plan days for teachers. As of February 23, 2011, if there were no more days missed due to inclement weather, the last day for students would be Tuesday, May 31 st. Teachers would then report for 3 additional planning days without students and 1 day for closing. Make Up Days would be: st February 21 March 28 th st -April 1 th May 27 st May 31 Banked Time (3 Teacher Plan Days without students ) If the district were to miss any more school days for inclement weather, three more student instructional make-up days could be added to the end of the year and still have students last day on June 3, 2011. The Board needs to set the Graduation date. According the calendar amendment above, that would make Graduation on Friday, June 4rd for Mercer Central and Mercer Co. Senior H.S. SUPERINTENDENT S RECOMMENDATION: On a motion by, second by, Mercer County Board of Education voted to: Amend the 2010-2011 calendar to attend 171 student instructional days, and add three teacher instructional days for teachers. Harlow s calendar would also be adjusted accordingly. Set Graduation Date- Friday, June 3rd VOTE: Yes No 3

STAFF NOTE PRESENTER: Mr. Tim Berger SUBJECT: DECLARATION OF SURPLUS TECHNOLOGY ITEMS INTRODUCTION: The following (attached) technology items are no longer functional and will be picked up by Creative Recycling Systems Inc. out of Louisville, KY for shredding of hard drives for security purposes and appropriate recycling of components and / or disposal. This is a free service provided to KY K-12 schools by this state KETS escrap contract provider. SUPERINTENDENT S RECOMMENDATION: I recommend granting the attached list of technology items as surplus property for recycling and / or disposal. This group will be housed at MCES in June of 2012 to do community service work, as well as in-kind services for the district.
