Name Period Date 1.Marbury vs Madison Description: Adams appointed lots of people to positions in the gov t as he left office. The new Secretary of State, James Madison, refused to deliver the appointments. Marbury, one of the officials who did not get his appointment, sue Madison. Significance (look at the info on the star) Established the principle of Judicial Review (the Supreme Court has the final say in whether a law or act is constitutional). The Supreme Court can interpret laws to see if they violate the. McCulloch vs Maryland Impact/Ruling: increased the power of the national government by saying that states can t tax a national bank Gibbons vs Ogden Impact/Ruling: increase the power of the national government by stating only the national government can regulate trade (commerce) between states 2.
