The American Society of Plumbing Engineers NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION CENTRAL OHIO CHAPTER www.central-ohio.aspe.org P. O. Box 2571 Columbus, OH 43216-2571 Chapters are not authorized to speak for the Society June 2018 Greetings, President s Report Just a day or so to the Central Ohio ASPE Golf Outing. I hope to see you there! Registration for the 2018 ASPE Convention & Expo is open The American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association will be co-locating its 2018 Conference with the 2018 ASPE Convention & Expo in Atlanta on September 28 - October 3. The ARCSA Conference will feature expert presentations on innovative water management topics and booths specific to rainwater harvesting on the Expo floor. ARCSA also will be offering its two-day Rainwater Harvesting Workshop prior to the event. Remember, direct flights are available from Columbus or Dayton. Just announced: the 2018 CPDT exam will be held October 25 and 26 The Certified Plumbing Design Technician program provides professional recognition of qualified individuals who design plumbing systems and is intended as a precursor to ASPE's acclaimed Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) credential. To learn how the CPDT credential can help accelerate your career in plumbing engineering, view our new case study here. Registration for the 2018 CPDT exam will open on June 25. Our popular Revit MEP workshop travels to Charlotte in June This one-day, hands-on workshop on June 29 will teach intermediate users how to optimize project workflows to design functional and graphically pleasing plumbing systems in Revit MEP. Attendees will earn 0.75 CEUs or 7.5 PDHs, and you can register at aspe.org/revit2018. The Board and I would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Mark Simpson for all of his years of service to the Central Ohio Chapter. Mark is stepping down from his position of VP Technical. Mark Taylor has agreed to finish his term for this coming year. We are planning on Steam seminars in September. Are there other topics you would like to hear about for a meeting or a half day (or all day) seminar? If so, please send those ideas to Mark Taylor or me. Bill Deardurff Tim Gleich Affiliate Liaison Industry Update: News and Notes Effective May 31st, Dave Madson has officially retired from Whitfill-McCarthy. Dave has been a great asset to this industry for 50 years. He has been a huge help to the Central Ohio ASPE. Congratulations on your retirement and we all with you the very best. Now you will finally have time to work on that golf game. Wait a minute, isn t that what you have been doing? Page 1

VP Technical Mark Simpson The summer break is upon us at last. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy summer full of activities. See you all in September! June s meeting topic is the Impact of the Golf Ball against the Club and how that Affects the Golfer and the presenter is FORE! Hope to see you all there!! This meeting is approved for bragging rights!! The ASPE Convention & Expo 2018 will be held September 28 th thru October 3 rd, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia World Congress Center. Registration is now open and if you register before August 28 th you ll receive the early bird special which is $50.00 off the registration price. After August 28 th you ll have to pay full price. So, register early!! The upcoming program year looks to be a very exciting one and I hope everyone will enjoy the variety of topics that we are going to cover. Mark Simpson Vice President Technical VP Technical Mark Taylor Central Ohio Membership: I guess we should start with the obvious change in the By-Line. For those who don t know, I have accepted the role of VP Technical on an interim basis. As you know, the success of the chapter luncheons rests on having quality technical meetings. Currently Mark Simpson is unable to dedicate the time he feels necessary to bring his desired level of professionalism to the position, therefore I will take on the challenge. For those who don t know me well, I worked in the industry for 37 years until my retirement May 1, 2017. I worked for Julian Speer Company (Speer Mechanical) for 11 years, Schooley-Caldwell Associates for 2+ years, Columbia Gas for 6 years and the balance for Limbach Company. With respect to the Central Ohio Chapter of ASPE I have been Administrative Secretary, Treasurer, and President. All of that said, I want to thank Mark for his efforts to date on planning the program for the 2018-2019 year. He has established four meeting topics and has speakers on-the-hook. He has also identified program topics for the balance of the year. I am in the process of confirming contact information for the first four meetings and will pursue speakers for the balance of the year. My plan is to announce the program in the next newsletter. Having stated the program topics are identified it is important to note this is YOUR Chapter. If there is a topic you would like to learn about, or if you are an Affiliate Member and desire to bring a topic to the membership please contact me. My cell phone number is 740-595-3239 and my email is old.tarklor@gmail.com. Enjoy the golf outing. Mark Taylor Vice President Technical Interim 3
