City of St. Peters Veterans Hall of Honor Application The Veterans Hall of Honor is a program designed to honor St. Peters residents who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. Sponsors may submit an application for a family member, friend or themselves. To qualify, the veteran must be a current or past resident of St. Peters, must either be on active duty or have received a discharge under honorable conditions from one or more branches of the United States Armed Forces. I-12 RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ST. PETERS, MISSOURI, AMENDING AND RESTATING, IN ITS ENTIRETY, ITS PRIOR RESOLUTION NO. 1551, SECTION NO. 3 OF RESOLUTION NO. 1546, RESOLUTION NO. 1513, SECTION NO. 3 OF RESOLUTION NO. 1492, RESOLUTION NO. 1475, RESOLUTION NO. 1460, RESOLUTION NO. 1454, RESOLUTION NO. 1323, RESOLUTION NO. 1286, AND RESOLUTION NO. 1256; RELATING TO THE VETERANS MEMORIAL COMMISSION WHEREAS, the City of St. Peters highly values the contributions and sacrifices made by the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces; and WHEREAS, the City of St. Peters is especially proud of its Veterans Memorials built to honor the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces; and WHEREAS, the City of St. Peters wishes to expand upon the Veterans Memorials, and to explore additional ways in which to honor St. Peters veterans, as well as plan and coordinate appropriate events and programs to honor our veterans; and, WHEREAS, The City of St. Peters wishes to encourage and involve citizens in improvements to the Veterans Memorials and in planning events and programs to honor our veterans. NOW THEREFOR, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF ST. PETERS, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: DRAFT SECTION NO. 1: Resolution No. 1551, Section No. 3 of Resolution No. 1546, Resolution No. 1513, Section No. 3 of Resolution No. 1492, Resolution No. 1475, Resolution No. 1460, Resolution No. 1454, Resolution No. 1323, Resolution No. 1286, And Resolution No. 1256, are each hereby amended and restated, in their entirety, as follows: SECTION NO. 2: The City of St. Peters, Missouri, Veterans Memorial Commission is hereby established. Such Commission shall consist of twelve (12) voting members appointed by the Mayor with the consent and approval of a majority of the members of the Board of Aldermen. Members of the Commission shall serve a two (2) year term. The Mayor shall designate one (1) voting member of the Commission who shall also serve as Chairperson and who shall preside at all meetings of the Commission. The voting members of the Commission shall elect one (1) person from among the voting members who shall serve as Vice Chairperson, which Vice Chairperson shall preside at all meetings of the Commission in the absence or at the direction of the Chairperson. The voting members shall be apportioned as follows: two (2) members from each of the four (4) wards in the City of St. Peters, and four (4) members-at-large. All Commission members shall be residents of the City of St. Peters, Missouri, and six (6) of the voting members shall have served in the Armed Forces of the United States. Veteran voting members shall provide No.
the City Clerk with copies of their DD214 and/or honorable discharge papers as proof they have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States. The Mayor shall also appoint, as a non-voting member, one (1) youth representative, and the Board of Aldermen shall also select one (1) of their own members to serve as a non-voting member and as a liaison between the Board of Aldermen and the Commission. Notwithstanding any other provision of this section to the contrary, the member of the Board of Aldermen selected to serve as a liaison with the Commission shall serve thereon for a term of one (1) year, or until their respective successor is duly elected, or until such time as such person no longer holds the office of Alderman in the City, whichever shall occur first. The attendance of three (3) voting members of the Commission shall constitute a quorum for purposes of conducting all business of the Commission. SECTION NO. 3: The Veterans Memorial Commission shall oversee the planning for all observances held at the Veterans Memorials. The Veterans Memorial Commission shall make recommendations to the Board of Aldermen and to the City Administration for the preservation and upkeep of the Veterans Memorial sites, as well as any other military memorials. The Veterans Memorial Commission shall attend to any other matter deemed appropriate by the Board of Aldermen concerning veterans affairs. SECTION NO. 4: The Veterans Memorial Commission shall meet as needed at the call of the Chairperson on at least seven (7) calendar days prior written notice to all members of the Commission. SECTION NO. 5: The Board of Aldermen hereby declares its intent to budget and provide annual funding for the Commission in the amount of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) for its activities and operations. Appropriations and expenditures of such funds by the Commission shall be subject to the prior written approval of the City Administrator. SECTION NO. 6: This Resolution shall take effect upon its adoption by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Peters, Missouri.
