DECEMBER 2016 A TALEPIPE Issue 12 The official publication of the Inland Empire Model A Club, Spokane, Washington GENERAL MEETING President s Message Dear members, This is my last newsletter as president! I want to thank everyone for always being there for me. I didn't always conduct meetings in the proper manner, but in the end they got done and hopefully everyone had fun. We had a nice turnout for the Christmas party. Always nice to end our year with a fun gathering. Enjoyed seeing some of our members that aren't able to attend our meetings. We love having you join us to catch up on what's going on and visit. Thanks to Jackie Bonner and Laura Henke for putting the party together. The ornaments were all hand made and beautiful. Great job ladies! So I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Candi Hoover, President CHRISTMAS PARTY Our annual Christmas Party serves as our December meeting. We again were at the Airport Ramada Inn and had a nice crowd this year and another delicious meal. Jackie Bonner and Laura Henke made all the arrangements for the party and then provided decorations and goodie bags for each person. They do an excellent job! They also took Christmas photos, which will be available at the January meeting. It was nice to see Chuck and Shirley Arnold this year. Last year Chuck fell the day before the party and broke his shoulder. Their daughter and son-in-law brought them this year as Chuck is no longer driving. The weather was not an issue this year, which is always nice. A few pictures are scattered through out this newsletter from the party. Last month we had our general election for board officer positions open. Jackie Bonner was elected President, Sheila Gibbons remains treasurer and Laura Henke will remain as Membership. Congratulations to all! A reminder that dues are due by the end of January. A renewal application is attached to the back of the newsletter. Also Jim Pendleton needs to hear from the guys with their speedometer readings to help ascertain who receives the mileage award trophies. All traveling trophies need to be turned into Jim Pendleton no later than the January meeting so they may be prepared to be given out again in February. January will be a regular meeting on Monday evening at Millwood City Hall. See you then. Happy New Year to all PAGE 3

WANTS/GOTS FOR SALE: 40 HP Volkswagen motor. Howard Rowley 509-326-9214 Tiny Tech Tips: Brake Rod Rattle Brake rod rattle is a common problem that plagues many Model A owners. Here is a tip to quickly and inexpensively remove the rattle. Loosen the clevis lock nut about one quarter of a turn. Grab brake rod just off the threads with vice grip pliers and twist the brake rod about one eighth of a turn, then lock nut. This puts a slight torque load on the rod and clevis but will eliminate the rattle without damage. PAGE 4

GENERAL MEETING November 21, 2016 President Candi Hoover called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. The treasurer s report was read and accepted There were no changes to the secretary s minutes as printed in the A Tailpipe. Eileen put the sign-up sheet out for refreshments for next year. If you still have any of the old membership flyers, please get rid of them and see Eileen for the new ones. Dues are due in January and need to be paid by Feb. 1st. There was more discussion on the MAFCA term limits petition and Dave has put it out to look at and sign. This petition was sent out nationwide not just in the northwest. Steve Schmauch said that the MAFCA board wants a policy change not just a bylaw change. The election was held and the results are: President; Jackie Bonner Treasurer; Sheila Gibbons Membership; Laura Henke The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM followed by refreshments and social time. BOARD MEETING December 6, 2016 President Candi Hoover called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. Present were Sheila Gibbons. Laura Henke, Jim Pendleton, Eileen LaFrance, Maureen Bledsoe and guest Jackie Bonner. There were no changes to the secretary s minutes as published in the A Tailpipe. If you have any suggestions for recipients of this year s trophies, let one of the board members know. Since there will not be a cook-off in January this year, we will have a regular meeting, refreshments and play bingo. The February 20th Sweetheart meeting will be at the Millwood City Hall meeting room and we will be serving the pies and ice cream. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM. The next board meeting will be at Denney s restaurant, on Argonne, at 6:30 PM on January 3rd, 2017.
