NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY STUDENT ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE I: Name of the organization The name of this student-athlete organization shall be known as the Student -Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). ARTICLE II: Purpose To foster a positive relationship between the athletic and academic communities To promote communication between the North Carolina Central University Athletic Department and the student-athlete population To promote athletics as a valuable part of the college experience, and to help create a positive image of student-athletes and athletics on our campus To design and implement programs which encourage community relations, school spirit, and sportsmanship, as well as boost attendance and excitement at NCCU athletic events To encourage and facilitate involvement of student-athletes in campus and community service projects To encourage unity, and camaraderie between teams among all athletes in the program. To educate all student athletes on the NCCA rules and regulations as they pertain to student-athlete welfare. ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP SAAC will not discriminate members based on their race, color, creed, sex, disability, or sexual orientation. Only current registered student-athletes who are listed on a varsity sport team s squad list shall be eligible for active membership. Each team is allowed no more than three (3) active members Coaches and or teammates are responsible for selecting team representatives at the beginning of each academic year. It is recommended that the representatives be from different class years. The length of the membership shall be for one year, from September to May. If the member is not a senior he or she can be reelected the following school year. Note: The advisor or advisors has the ability to decline a member s membership based on his or her commitment to the organization. ARTICLE IV: EXECUTIVE BOARD
A. Selection At the end of each year, the representatives of SAAC shall elect the executive board that will consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer B. Roles These Executive Board positions must be a varsity athlete President The President shall preside over all meetings, delegate duties, and call for a vote when warranted. Vice President - The Vice President shall act as the chairperson in the absence of the President. Secretary The Secretary shall record all minutes of the committee s meetings and is in charge of keeping track of attendance. Treasurer - The Treasurer shall keep track of an annual budget, represent AC SAAC to sources of funding, and report all expenses at each meeting. ARTICLE V: MEETINGS A. Frequency Meetings shall be held: First Sunday of each month at 3:00 p.m. This meeting schedule is meant to be a guideline, and is subject to change. Meetings will be in the McDougald Gym Conference Room (pending availability). B. Attendance Attendance is mandatory for all members. Alternates shall be notified as far in advance as possible; the President and Secretary shall be notified at least 48 hours in advance. Attendance at all meetings and organizational events is required each member will Only be given 2 absences a year to meetings and mandatory events. Attendance will be recorded and reported to coaches and SAAC members. After a second absence, the representative will be replaced by the alternate from their team. When a team representative cannot be present, the team s alternate must be present.
NOTE: LACK OF PARTICIPATION AND ABIDING TO THIS ARTICLE WILL FORFITE THE RIGHTS OF THAT MEMBER TO PRACTICE AND OR TAKE PART IN COMPETITION OF HIS OR HER SPORT. C. Voting Procedure The Director of Athletics and SAAC will determine what issues can be brought to meeting for voting. Only representative can vote on an issue, and only the representative can be present when a vote is taken. Representative who are not present at a committee meeting at which a vote occur are required to have a teammate present and cast their vote. 66% of SAAC will suffice for a quorum; a full quorum of members must be present in order to vote. Decisions shall be made by a simple majority vote of 51% of the members present. This constitution may be amended by two-thirds vote of the total membership of the committee. Members are expected to participate in proceedings and encourage team participation in all SAAC activities and events. ARTICLE VII: AMENDMENTS The proposed amendments shall be submitted in writing and read at the general membership meeting. Discussion and voting on the proposal shall be held at the next scheduled meeting. A three-fifths majority of the SAAC shall be necessary to amendments.
MISSION STATEMENT The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at North Carolina Central University is a dynamic group of student-athlete team leaders who, by working together, develop and strengthen a sense of personal responsibility and wellness among student-athletes, the administration and the community. Our mission is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by assisting the director of athletics with his/her quest in developing student-athlete leadership skills; encouraging a focus on academics and graduation; and fostering a positive student-athlete image on the campus of NCCU and in the community. We are dedicated to representing the interests of our fellow studentathletes for the betterment of Athletics at NCCU. For this, the committee will serve as an open forum for all varsity student-athletes and act as a vehicle to promote communication between coaches, athletic administrators and student-athletes.
