Then on June 4, the library will be participating in a community wide mini-golf event held at the Lloyd Road School to raise funds for the Matawan Aberdeen Educational Foundation (MAEF). Matawan Aberdeen Community Mini-Golf A week later, on June 10, Friends of MAPL sponsor a book sale and, later in the month, on June 24, our annual Summer Reading Program kicks off for both kids and adults. Special Music Program: West African Kora (Harp) Thursday, June 1 @ 17:00 pm Sean Gaskell will give a performance and educational demonstration on the Kora, an ancient 21-stringed harp from West Africa. He will feature traditional songs that are at the heart and soul of the Kora's musical repertoire in addition to some of his own personal compositions. Gaskell has been featured at numerous festivals in the United States, Gambia, and Senegal. Moving in the Right Direction Monday, June 5 This interactive seminar will help guide older homeowners in their next move. We will explore the reasons to move, overcoming the fear of moving to a new environment, and how to manage the years of accumulated stuff, treasures, and trash. If you or your older loved ones have come to the realization that it's time to downsize to a smaller home or place, come and learn the next steps so you can move in the right direction. The Universe and an All-American Total Eclipse Thursday, June 29 (732) 583-9100 info@matawanaberdeenlibrary.com Explore the universe in this virtual journey through the cosmos. Learn about the mysteries of eclipses and other celestial events before a total solar eclipse takes place this summer. Following the indoor presentation, attendees are invited to go outdoors to view celestial objects in the sky (such as the ice crystal rings of Saturn, craters on the moon, etc.) through a powerful hand-crafted telescope, weather permitting. This event is presented by astronomer Kevin Manning and is suitable for patrons ages 12 and up. Health and Exercise for Adults Chair Yoga Thursday, June 8 @ 1:30 pm Are you interested in learning yoga, but have difficulty getting down on the floor? Now you too can enjoy all the benefits of yoga without having to get on a mat. You will learn many yoga postures, breathing techniques, mediation and relaxation while seated in a chair. The class will be taught by Danielle Meany, RYT. All levels welcome. No experience or equipment is necessary. Yoga Basics Thursday, June 22 @ 11:00 am This class is great for the beginner or experienced student as we give variations for all levels. Focusing on movement integrating breath, awareness, and alignment, you will build strength, focus, flexibility, and balance for both mind and body. The class will be taught by Tula Yoga instructor, Jennifer Cavalieri. Please bring your own yoga mat or large towel. Must be at least 18 years old to participate. (At the time of writing, this event was filling up. Check for availability. Also routinely check the library's web site for upcoming months.)

New Arrivals for June TECHNOLOGY CLASSES FOR YOU! Microsoft Office 2013: The Essentials Monday, June 12 Learn the basics you need to get started with Microsoft Office! This hands-on class will focus on working with the Ribbon, the powerful toolbar that is used throughout all Office products to provide easy access to the most common functions. We will then take a brief look into the specialties of individual Office products, including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Facebook Basics Saturday, June 17 @ 1:30 pm Facebook is a social networking site that allows users to upload photos and videos, send messages, view posts, and connect with friends. In this class, we will cover: -- Facebook Messaging features --Exploring pages -- Finding/Connecting with friends -- Privacy settings -- Any questions ONE-ON-ONE COMPUTER SESSIONS MAPL offers free one-on-one computer sessions with knowledgeable computer techs. Each session will be an hour long and cover a range of topics such as online forms, emails, the Internet, resumes, and any other general computer questions you may have. Databases of the Month: hoopla and OneClickdigital MAPL offers you access to many, many databases through its website. To celebrate National Audiobook Month, this month's featured databases are hoopla and OneClickdigital. These two databases enable you to access thousands of audiobooks that you can use on your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
