NIRMA UNIVERSITY LAW JOURNAL CALL FOR PAPERS Dear Sir/Madam, The Journal Committee of Institute of Law, Nirma University hereby invites articles/ research papers, case studies, and book reviews on the theme Exploring contours of human rights in India for publication in the Nirma University Law Journal (March 2017 Issue) bearing ISSN Number 2249-1430. It can be an inter-disciplinary study reflecting socioeconomic and political ideas or contemporary issues. The journal is a peerreviewed ISSN serial publication from, Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It showcases contemporary issues and challenges specific to law, with an inter-disciplinary approach towards assimilating knowledge. It is an endeavor of the Institute to become the beacon of legal education by encouraging synthesis of knowledge and best practices cutting across the academia and research fraternity. The Journal is indexed by Manupatra and SCC Online. Theme: Exploring contours of human rights in India (March 2017) The evolution of three generations of human rights from "civil and political liberties" as "first generation" right to "second generation" rights focusing on "socio-economic equality" and to solidarity, collective rights" as "third generation has its specific and universal contexts. Human rights activism has highlighted gap between human rights and human rights law as well as aimed to ensure the full legal recognition and actual realization of human rights. Globally, "third generation" rights, such as the rights to a healthy environment, to self-determination and to development, have been adopted. In India, along with these sets of human rights, newer challenges have been posed, which stress for finer articulation of human rights. Identity based violence, communal violence, intolerance culminating into violence, regional disparities and state induced

problems including internal displacement, separatist groups and their demands, armed forces powers and injustice and violence are better known violations of human rights. However, these problems are yet to be effectively respected, protected, promoted and fulfilled by various state agencies of India. We recognize that advances in human rights are not dependent only on States; different civil actors have articulated human right violation as well as advocated promotion of justice in India. In order to articulate, enunciate, visualizing, recognition and operationalization of human rights of various kinds and all three generations, the submissions may be inclusive of the following sub-themes however they may not be restricted to the below mentioned: Possible Sub Themes I. Learning drawn from dealing with violation of human rights A. economic, social, and cultural rights B. civil liberties and democratic rights II. Critically looking at the State initiatives for creating mechanisms / agencies for promotion and protection of human rights A. National and State Human Rights Commissions B. Various laws enacted to promote human rights III. Role, performance, and potentials of civil actors in promotion and protection of human rights A. Dealing with violence due to various reasons B.
