Atamiskākēwak Gathering 2018 Shaking hands with each other in Greeting The Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) identified an urgent need for reconciliation between Indigenous and non-indigenous peoples and societies. Organizations across the country are examining how they can make changes within their core to engage more effectively with Indigenous communities and become leaders and partners in building reconciliation. Moose Jaw has an amazing opportunity to host such an event. This Atamiskākēwak Gathering will bring Indigenous and non-indigenous Peoples together throughout Saskatchewan and abroad to educate how we all can take intentional action to the Truth and Reconciliation s 94 Calls to Action in this country. Our nation has an ever- increasing population of Indigenous people and we need to move forward together, understanding and bridging the gap that exists between the two cultures. It is an opportunity to experience the Indigenous culture and engage in conversations on a pathway forward that will provide understanding and long term systemic change by building trusting relationships going forward. HOW DO WE COME TOGETHER AND ACCEPT AND ACT ON THE 94 CALLS TO ACTION? The Truth and Reconciliation Commission set out the why and the what in their report, and the Atamiskākēwak Gathering will allow each of us to understand and respond to the calls to action put forward by the TRC. Across the week of the Gathering, powerful messages and dialogue will emerge, cutting across both the how and the what of moving forward with actions. The time for action is now. Allies are everywhere and the national agenda has shifted to make this an ideal time to bring about change. The change in our corporations and daily lives must be change to the core; change must be long-term and sustainable. The work of educating, understanding and shifting ways of knowing belongs to everyone - with everyone playing a part. Indigenous peoples bringing their voices into conversations in a safe welcoming space is critical. Collaboration with Indigenous people is required at every step exemplifying the idea of nothing about us without us. There are challenges and opportunities in response to the calls to action, and the committee is ready to organize and engage in building better relationships and bridging the gap among all peoples by providing dialogue about these important issues. We are excited to host this event in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on Treaty Four Territory! The week will consist of national and international attendance on the how to build right relationships on the journey of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-indigenous peoples. It will be how do we apply and act on the 94 Calls to Action in today s reality. We will have education on all of the following areas: Child Welfare, Education, Language and Culture, Health, Justice, Professional Development and Training for Public Servants, Church Education for Reconciliation, Youth Programs/Sports and Reconciliation, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), Business and Reconciliation, as well as interactive events such as; First Nation village with tipi s and horses for the week, Indigenous Artisan Fair, Pow Wow, opening and closing ceremony with Gala event, Indigenous entertainment, cultural teachings throughout the week, and so much more...and your company has opportunity to be a part of this very special week.
