INTRODUCTION

Global warming of 1.5 C An IPCC Special Report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 C above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways, in the context of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to eradicate poverty Fourth Lead Author Meeting WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION On behalf of the IPCC Working Groups I, II and III, we are delighted to welcome you to the SR1.5 Fourth Lead Author Meeting (LAM4) in Gaborone, Botswana, which is hosted by the government of Botswana, through the Ministry of Environment Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, the National Climate Change Committee (NCCC) in the Department of Meteorological Services and the Botswana Global Environmental Change Committee (BGCC) at the University of Botswana. Since the Third Lead Author Meeting held last October in Malmö, Sweden, important steps towards the development of the SR1.5 have been undertaken with the preparation of the Second Order Draft (SOD) of the Report and the First Order Draft of the Summary for Policymakers (SPM). The formal review by experts and governments has resulted in a total of 25 476 comments. The LAM4 will be an important opportunity for the Authors to work on the review comments and the final draft of the chapters, and to discuss the preparation of the Second Order Draft of the SPM. The Review Editors will be present to assist the Authors in their task; their role is to ensure that the review comments are addressed appropriately and to advise Authors on how to handle contentious or controversial issues arising from the comments. Co-Chairs, Bureau members and IPCC Vice Chairs will also be attending to support the Authors in their work. We are pleased to welcome you all to the SR1.5 Fourth Lead Author Meeting and look forward to working with you here in Gaborone. Thank you in advance for your fruitful contribution.
