Nerve Radio is Bournemouth University s very own Student Radio Station based in the heart of the Student Centre. Supported by SUBU, Nerve Radio broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, online on Nerve Media. We re looking for a new committee, so take a look at these roles... it could be you! Station Manager: the overall management of the committee that run the station. You decide the general direction of the station, and set goals and targets to meet that year. Lead contact between both SUBU, external organisations and the station. Your leadership, communication, and managerial skills will be integral to this role. Deputy Station Manager: Provide direct support to the Station Manager. You are also expected to be capable of managing the station, should the SM not be available. You will need to demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills, as well as a diplomatic attitude. Head of Daytime: Scheduling daytime shows. Maintaining and amending the schedule. daytime presenters on or off campus on a regular basis. Being an open line of communication for Nerve as a whole. reporting to the Station Manager or Deputy on a fortnightly basis. Understanding the technical aspects of the studio. A good knowledge of how to produce a radio show. Deputy Head of Daytime: Support Head of Daytime. Know how to produce great radio. Help schedule shows. Head of Evenings: Scheduling evening shows. Maintaining and amending the schedule. daytime presenters on or off campus on a regular basis. Being an open line of communication for Nerve as a whole. reporting to the Station Manager or Deputy on a fortnightly basis. Understanding the technical aspects of the studio. A good knowledge of how to produce a radio show. Be highly knowledgeable of current music trends and charts. Deputy Head of Evenings: Provide direct onair support to Evening s presenters and DJs. Know how to produce great radio. Help schedule shows. Head of Production: creating all the stations on air branding such as idents and sweepers. Head of Production requires a good knowledge of how to record audio, and produce high quality branding. Skills in Adobe Audition and sound recording are essential. Executives of Marketing and Social Media: (Looking for 2 candidates) the communication channels of the Radio station. Knowledge of how to create basic graphics and posters is required. Expected to deal with external contacts when it comes to potential advertisements. Liaising with SUBU to provide them with any marketing they require Nerve to put out. Head of Music: Source, organise, and schedule the station s weekly playlist. Source the music using the high-quality record pools that Nerve is subscribed to or through other legal methods you consider appropriate. Learn how to use Myriad and Autotrack softwares in order to and maintain Nerve s music library and correctly organise a playlist for each week. Head of Sport: all sports broadcasting. Heads of Daytime and Evenings to schedule sports programming. Maintaining the existing relationships with local contacts such as AFC Bournemouth. Head of Events: all external activities Nerve partakes in. Deal with clients who want Nerve to broadcast from various venues. Learn how to produce and run Outside Broadcasts from both a technical and producing angle. organizing Nerve socials, ensuring they are inclusive, and available to everyone who is a part of Nerve.

What is Nerve Online? Nerve Online is looking for a new dedicated team to develop the website further into its fifth year. Nerve Online is the online hub for Nerve Media, working with Nerve Radio, Magazine and News to provide daily content ranging from gig reviews to comment articles. After a redesign last year, this year Nerve Online has continued to provide a record amount of content, including interviews with bands The Hoosiers, Enter Shikari and Peace as well as exclusive reviews for a number of games and music albums. Nerve Online has also seen the launch of a newly designed radio player, posting extra content for Nerve Radio and Nerve Magazine as part of its schedule. Nerve Online also got its own social media channels this year, live blogging events like the SUBU Elections through Twitter and Facebook. We are looking for some enthusiastic, talented and well-organised writers to fill a number of our editorial roles across our content sections. The best part of Nerve Online is that you can work wherever you are, either at home in your pyjamas, between lectures or even in another country! You don t have to have written for Nerve before and you do not have to be doing a media related degree (one of our current editors does Events Management!). Head of Online Content: Nerve Media s Head of Online coordinates all content on nervemedia.org. uk Leading a team of online editors to ensure that the website is kept in working order and up to date with all relevant, original Nerve content. Making sure that all writers who want to produce content for Nerve Online have sufficient chances to do so. Ensuring through regular meetings with heads of News, Magazine and Radio that all information is up to date and that frontpage stories are up to date and engaging. A good knowledge of WordPress. Excellent writing ability. Online Entertainment Editor: A passion for anything and everything entertainment related (such as film, television, books, video games and more). Excellent writing ability for interviews, reviews, features and more. Good professional communication to talk to PR companies, writers and artists. Ability to work closely to deadlines. Good proof-reading ability. Be proactive in finding writers at short notice for relevant entertainment articles. Be able to motivate new writers and be creative in coming up with new ideas for your section. Experience working Online Entertainment Sub- Editor: Assist the Entertainment Editor in the editing of all entertainment writing. Ability to work closely to deadlines. Good proof-reading ability. Features Editor: Editor: Excellent communication skills to manage your team, and deal with members of the University. Strong organisational skills, and a good sense of punctuality. A solid set of editing You will need to proof read the whole magazine and be able to edit contributed content. Good management skills to lead the magazine team and delegate tasks to other editors. Approachable and confident individual with good people skills to push the magazine forwards. Production Editor: You will need a strong set of editing skills to fulfill this role. You will need to be confident on Adobe InDesign to help produce the magazine. You will need a good eye for design. You will need to know which articles work best at which point of the magazine. Strong communication. You will need to be an approachable individual who can communicate with the Head of Design and Editor. Great organisational You will be responsible for making sure the magazine goes to print on time. Sub-Editor: Editing skills - You will work closely with the Editor and Production Editor to make sure the magazines appearance looks impeccable. Eye for design- you will help over look the magazine s design before it is finally printed. Proof reading - You also need to have a strong sense of grammar to proof read the copy before it is sent out to print. Design Editor: Adobe InDesign skillsyou will need to know InDesign inside out for this role. You will be responsible for safeguarding the design guidelines for the magazine. Communication skillsyou will be responsible for training designers on InDesign. For this you will need to be a people s person who is approachable. Time management. You will be to be a punctual individual who can meet strict print deadlines. Arts Editor: Design skills -You will need a good eye for design, and will work closely with the design editor to edit the magazines layout. You will be responsible for deciding on a theme for the front cover. Imaginative skill set you will need to have plenty of ideas as you work alongside the Editor to produce monthly content. Ideas The main responsibility of this role is to come up with content for the magazine. You will need to have a constant flow of ideas to feed to your content contributors. Creative You need to be someone who s innovative. You have the ability to publish features about anything that interests you. You have the chance to take the magazine to new imaginative heights. Communication skills You will be responsible for communicating with the writers, and chasing articles up. You need to have ability to engage with your writers and help with any possible writers block. Comment Editor: Judgment You will need to have a free mind that does not judge writer s work, opinions or views. Writing skills As the editor you will be responsible for helping your writers construct their articles and explain their views in a manner that does not take away the quality of their points. You will also need to overlook contributor s work and proof read it. Man-management skills You will need to inspire your writers, and ignite their inner passion about certain topics. Strong personality - As the comment editor you will need to be a strong individual who is not swayed by other people s opinions. Grammar skills - As the editor you will be responsible for checking individuals articles for errors. Fashion: Trends -You will need to know all the latest trends in the fashion world, and know what s hot and what s not. Ideas- You will be responsible for creating 10 pages of creative fashion content for each issue. Leadership - You will be responsible for managing and distributing features, interviews and articles between writers. Communication skillsyou will need to be an approachable individual who can communicate efficiently with all the fashion writers. Entertainment Editor: Entertainment know it all- You will need to know and love everything entertainment. You will have great knowledge about films, TV and music. While you have your favourite, you will need to be open about all genres of music. Communication skills - You will need to liaise with outside PR companies to get interviews with music and public figures. You will be responsible for obtaining tickets, gig opportunities and interviews for your writers. Support You will need to be an approachable individual who writers can communicate openly with. Sport: Knowledge - You need to have a fantastic knowledge of all things sport. This role is not only about football! You need to know about all current affairs news in the world of sport. Your sport knowledge needs to be international and local. Creative - You will be responsible for creating feature ideas for upcoming issues. Copy skills - You will need to have strong grammar skills to proof read writers copy. Promotion Editor: Communication - You will be responsible for arranging meetings and keeping open communication with the Editor and section editors. You will also work with the Online and Radio team to co-ordinate promotion in multidepartment events. Social media - You will need to have great social media knowledge, and will continue to build the magazines online presence. You will distribute the magazine online, and preview next months edition.

Head of News: The Head of Nerve News is in charge and responsible for the branch, which includes both Radio and Online. A sound understanding of all radio software and hardware, including Tascams, Adobe Audition, Scoop, Myriad. A good knowledge of broadcast regulations, media law including libel and defamation. Online journalism skills including fluent knowledge of Wordpress and SEO. They must plan and organise the two news shows and work to develop them. Deputy Head of News: The main role as Deputy Head of News is to support the Head of Nerve News. A sound understanding of all radio software and hardware, including Tascams, Adobe Audition, Scoop, Myriad. A good knowledge of broadcast regulations, media law including libel and defamation. Online journalism skills including fluent knowledge of Wordpress and SEO. Plan and organise the news shows and work to develop them with the Nerve News editors. News-Online Editor: The Online News Editor is responsible for all news, entertainment, comment and sport output from Nerve News on the Nerve Media website. They must have a sound knowledge of WordPress, SEO and social media posts and sharing. This individual must be able to work under pressure and be able to lead and steer members of the team towards producing and facilitating quality output that reaches our primary target audience. This candidate must also lead an online team of news writers, communicate with and train them to the standard expected. They must develop an online schedule with writers and subs for the website. News-Online Deputy Editor: The Online News Sub- Editor will work closely with the Online News Editor in subbing online news stories for the Nerve Media Website. This person must have fluent knowledge of Wordpress, SEO and social media. Their spelling, punctuation and English language skills must be exceptional. The ability to recognise the mistakes of others is vital. Time-management and organisational skills are also necessary to execute this role. Entertainment News Editor: Must have a passion for entertainment news on a local, national and international scale. Be able to source and provide stories for the rest of the team that will interest our primary audience of students. The entertainment editor needs to have an ability to lead and encourage members of the team to source, write and read entertainment news confidently and in the appropriate style for Nerve Radio News. They must lend a hand to the online entertainment section and should be able to use Scoop, Myriad and Adobe Audition to run radio bulletins and edit audio. They must also have the knowledge and be confident enough to train members of the new team to write and present news bulletins. Politics News Editor: Must have a passion for Politics news on a local, national and international scale and be able to write political stories in an engaging way. They need to able to source and provide stories for the rest of the team that will interest our primary audience of students. The Politics Editor needs to have an ability to lead and encourage members of the team to source, write and read news confidently and in the appropriate style for Nerve Radio News. They must lend a hand to the online politics section and should be able to use Scoop, Myriad and Adobe Audition to run radio bulletins and edit audio. Sports News Editor: Must have a keen interest, in a wide range of sports and feel passionate about fulfilling this role. The candidate needs to know how to write sport stories for radio as well as for articles, and be confident in helping others to write sport stories if they require assistance. This person should be able to use Scoop, Myriad and Adobe Audition to run radio bulletins and edit audio. They must be confident to train members of the new team to write and present news bulletins. They must be reliable, have good timemanagement and excellent communication They must have a basic understanding sport terminology and jargon and be able to incorporate these into radio news stories. They will have to keep an eye on all of the major sport stories during a week to be able to speak confidently about big issues and topics on the weekly News Hour. The individual expected to help out in online sports stories. Social Media Editor: The Nerve News Social Media Editor will work with the Online News Editor and sub editor to create online news stories through social media specifically, for the Nerve Media Website. This person must have fluent knowledge of Wordpress, SEO and social media. Their spelling, punctuation and English language skills must be exceptional. The ability to recognise the mistakes of others is vital. Time-management and organisational skills are also necessary to execute this role. Creative and new ideas for stories, headlines and social media posts to optimise the website traffic and improve our social media presence; this includes Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, Instagram.
