Chief's Report Chief Rich introduced S/Sgt. Rick Stewart who was a ttending the meeting on behalf of the Abbotsford Police Union. S/Sgt. Stewart is the President of the APU and also leads the Colour Guard for the APO, runs the annual John Goyer Memorial golf tournament and many other events at the APO. He also is a key member of the committee that runsthe BC Law Enforcement Memorial. Chief Rich reported on the gang conflict occurring throughout the lower mainland, and the recent double homicide in Edmonton and related funeral in Abbotsford. The staffing needed to ensure the funeral and subsequent reception did not create public safety risks was discussed. The APO will be taking steps in the coming days to respond to this heightened tension between gangs in the Abbotsford area. 5. BCAPB Aman Gill reported that the next meeting of the BCAPB is Friday, January 27, 2017. The CAPG is also looking for a BC representative. Sa. BCAPB Conference & AGM: The BCAPB Conference will be held in Vancouver in April. Conference attendees: Confirmed - Sukh Sidhu, Aman Gill. Tentative: Barb Schimnowsky and Mike Welte. MOTION: That attendance by Aman Gill, Sukh Sidhu, Barb Schimnowsky, and Mike Welte to the BCAPB Conference & AGM be approved. Moved: Mark Warkentin I Seconded: Mike Welte I CARRIED Sb. Resolutions: A discussion about possible resolutions took place. It was agreed to put forward a resolution regarding the legislative changes for the Independent Investigation Office (110) relating to hiring of retired police officers with competencies required for the job and a change to the standard for when a file is forwarded to Crown Counsel to show there is significant evidence that a criminal offence has occurred. MOTION: That Chief Rich be directed to write a Resolution to the BCAPB for two legislative changes regarding the 110. Moved: Aman Gill I Seconded: Barb Schimnowsky I CARRIED Sc. BCAPB Appointment of Executive Board: The BCAPB requires the Abbotsford Police Board's appointments of Executive Board.
