If you would like to participate as a volunteer, please contact Stephanie for more information (email in left column). She is organizing this group. For further information on the show is available on page 2. Since no information has come forth from AHA, I have included a brief history of our original International Arabian Horse Association organization under which ARAB was formed and functioned from 1977 until 2002 when IAHA was dissolved and AHA was created. This summary appears on page 3. Enjoy a bit of history., President Association of Ridgecrest Arabian Breeders See Page 2, 2013 by

http://www.arabianhorses.org A Bit of History! Since March was apparently a fairly quiet month, AHA is not reporting any news. Therefore, as editor of this publication, I have gone back in my files for a bit of history behind the evolution of the Arabian in America leading to the creation of IAHA which after over 50 years of serving our breed evolved into today s AHA. Origin of the International Arabian Horse Association (IAHA) now Arabian Horse Association (AHA) Lets start with very early beginnings of the International Arabian Horse Association dubbed IAHA for short. Thought of creating this organization evolved in about 1949. By this time there were about 7 Club organizations, registrations number about 5157, breeders wanted to have organized competitions for their Arabian horses and it was recognized that individual Clubs had their own separate rules. A group of breeders got together at the 1949 Arabian Horse Breeders Society Show in Pomona. They decided that a parent organization was need to formulate rules, coordinate the activities of the clubs and encourage the formation of new clubs. The organizational meeting was held in Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 30 31, 1950. This group was comprised of A.L. Holland and Mrs. Ward Rulien of Idaho; Dr & Mrs. James Thompson and Mrs. Clarence V. Saylor of Montana; Kenneth Hall of Oregon; Anna Best Joder of Wyoming; Harry Harness and Minal Young of San Diego, California; Larry Duff and Edmund T. Smith of San Francisco, California; Glenn F. Purvine, Mr. & Mrs. Preston Dyer and Earle Hurlbutt of Southern California; and Dr. Dan McArthur, Dr. Fred Hardy and Dean and Noy Christofferson of Utah. This group elected the first officers and wrote their Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. The first annual meeting was held at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, Colorado, January 20, 1951. Gladys Brown Edwards donated artwork to create the IAHA logo, Booklets were prepared along with advertising and IAHA started growing. Below is the logo designed into the commemorative 50th Anniversary of IAHA. In 1975 IAHA President Yale Freed set up the Regional Concept which, when formally established at the 1975 Convention to be implemented in 1976, gave us the 18 Regions and their Directors. Thus, the IAHA Board of Directors was created. Conventions and this Board established committees, commissions and rules for the organization and for competitions throughout the ensuring years. In 2002, after over 10 years of problems with registration policies on a world-wide basis, IAHA and AHRA created an agreement to partially combined these organizations in a cooperative endeavor. IAHA and AHRA were dissolved and AHA and PAT were created. That s where we are today. This is a very brief and surface sketch of the history of our American organizations. Stephanie Bennett, Delegate cantinaarabians@sbcglobal.net To my Fellow ARAB members: On April 6, 2013, the 2 nd Region 2 Delegates meeting was held in Valencia. Yeah! Meeting in Valencia cut my drive time in half. The agenda included the review and vote of the rewrite of our Region 2 By-laws which provides the procedure of replacing the Region 2 Vice Director. Depending on the results of the vote, our Director, Jay Greenberg, would either call for a vote to approve his appointment, or the delegation would proceed with a secret ballot for nominees from the floor. The vote for the rewrite of the bylaw was taken, and it was voted down. The Director proceeded with his appointment of Gordon Walter for Vice Director. The Delegation did not approve the appointment by the narrowest of margins. It is unfortunate that politics still plague our regional business. The Vice Director position will remain empty. The Region 2 Championship Show Committee has completed most of the Pre-show du- ties. The show premium list has been distributed, entries are due May 22, 2013. We are still seeking volunteers for the show. We discussed the awards provided to the Regional Endurance/ Competitive Trail winners. In the past, Plaques, horse blankets, and Region 2 vests have been awarded without ribbons and rosettes. The delegation agreed to offer rosettes to Champion and Reserve and Top Five ribbons to the winners if they want them. We are also considering having a presentation of winners at the Region 2 Championship show. This discussion will continue next meeting after the chairman has a chance to survey his Endurance participants. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the meeting and/or your concerns. My email address is at the top of this report. Thanks, Stephanie Bennett, ARAB Delegate to AHA and Region 2 ARAB invites anyone to share their story, history of their particular method of training or other subjects of interest to the Arabian horse readers of this Newsletter.
