SK Mike Torrey, filling in for the Faithful Pilot, reported that all Knights present were in possession of their current membership card. Reflection of the Faithful Friar No Report. Reading of the Minutes of the Previous Meeting SK Jim McHugh read the minutes of the November business meeting and the December open meeting. The minutes were approved as read.
Faithful Navigator s Report Faithful Navigator Obuchowski welcomed Al Grimmig, Associate District Marshall for Northern Virginia to the meeting. Faithful Navigator Al Obuchowski hoped everybody had a great Christmas with their families and wished everybody a blessed new year. Faithful Navigator Obuchowski talked about the ten (10) person Honor Guard at the Historic Church for the wife of SK George Alexa, Faithful Navigator of the Acts of the Apostles Assembly. Faithful Navigator Obuchowski noted that the Assembly name and number were formally approved on December 7, 2015. Faithful Navigator Obuchowski was asked by the District Master when we would be holding the Installation of Officers as he and the State Deputy would like to attend. Faithful Navigator Obuchowski asked the officers if January 31, 2016, would be a good date for the installation. It appears that this would be a good date but will make the final decision later in the week based on the availability of the Faithful Friar and one of the Church halls. Faithful Navigator Obuchowski reminded all in attendance to remember to recruit for the Patriotic Degree. There will be a Patriotic Degree Exemplification on April 9 in Roanoke, VA and will be a single day event. Faithful Navigator Obuchowski brings greetings from Sir Knight Michael Stephens, who recently moved to Yorktown, VA. He will be transferring to Fr. Casey Assembly later in the meeting. Reading of Bills and Communications SK Jim McHugh noted the following bills: $25.00 Supreme Assessment $141.73 Assembly Supplies $141.87 Meeting Food $308.60 TOTAL Report of the Faithful Comptroller SK Dave Sharp noted that the Assembly currently has a total of 107 Members. Report of the Faithful Purser SK Jim Cella stated there is $2740.76 in the checking account. Faithful Navigator Obuchowski noted that are two ways for you to participate in this event. You can be a part of the Honor Guard, or you could be an usher for the event. February 13 Color Corps training will be conducted by the District Marshal, Sir Knight David Todd, Sr., PFN. Required for all Sir Knights who participate in Color/Honor Guards every two years or on the appointment of a new District Master. Signup on the Assembly website. Budget Committee Report SK Sharp noted that the budget was read in at the last meeting and will be voted on later in this meeting. By-Laws Committee Report Faithful Admiral, Dan Turgeon, PFN, noted that he still cannot access the By-Laws site. Fundraising Committee Report Committee has not yet been assigned Sir Knights Café Acknowledgement Sir Knights Mike Torrey, Phil Freda, Josh Freda and Greg Skorupski were acknowledged for making the food for this evening s meeting. 50-50 Drawing The winner of the 50-50 drawing was SK Dave Sharp. Reading of Applications Faithful Admiral Turgeon read in the following four (4) transfer applications: Donald Devane Mark Haaland Carlos Loayza-Martinez Mike Stephens Unfinished Business 2016 Fraternal Year Budget was proposed at the December meeting and was tabled as required by the Supreme By-Laws. The budget was called for a vote and passed unanimously. Faithful Pilot, SK Fidel Rodriguez, made a motion for the release of up to $700 for the purchase of name tags at the December meeting. The motion was tabled as the request was for over $500 and the budget had not been approved. The motion was called for a vote and passed unanimously. Report of Trustees No report. New Business Election of Delegates to the Biennial Meeting - Faithful Navigator Obuchowski turned the gavel over to the Faithful Scribe, Jim McHugh, to conduct the election of delegates. Sir Knight Dick Lee, PFN, at the December meeting, made a motion to nominate the Faithful Navigator, SK Al Obuchowski, and the Faithful Captain, SK Johnny Restivo, as delegates to the biennial meeting. There were no nominations from the floor. A voice vote was called and the motion was approved unanimously. Sir Knight Dick Lee, PFN, at the December meeting, made a motion to nominate Faithful Admiral, SK Dan Turgeon, PFN, and the Faithful Three Year Trustee, SK Gerry Rutkowski, PFN, as alternate delegates to the biennial meeting. There were no nominations from the floor. A voice vote was called and the motion was approved unanimously. The Faithful Scribe, Jim McHugh, returned the gavel to Faithful Navigator Obuchowski for the continuation of the meeting Three Year Trustee, SK Gerry Rutkowski, PFN, made a motion to pay the bills, The motion was seconded by George Wassif and was approved unanimously. Faithful Scribe, Jim McHugh, made a motion to release the budgeted funds for the purchase of a banner for the Assembly. The motion was seconded by the Faithful Captain, SK Johnny Restivo. Report of the Knighthood Degree SK Jim McHugh noted that Council is participating in the Life is VERY Good Rally on January 22 as ushers. Please consider signing up for this event. He also noted that the Council 8600 will be holding an Admission Degree and a Formation Degree Exemplifications on the morning of Saturday, January 23, please consider attending these exemplifications as observers. There will be a Knighthood Degree Exemplification on January 30 at Fr. Diamond Council in Fairfax. Grand Knight McHugh also noted that Council 8600 will be holding a fraternal benefits night on January 19. He also noted that the return of the $100 Annuity as an insurance offering was discussed at the Virginia Mid-Year meeting. Good of the Order Faithful Comptroller, SK Dave Sharp noted that he has new cards for those Sir Knights who have already paid their 2016 fraternal year dues. SK Matt Wheeler s son Joey, who is the Virginia Global Ambassador for the Special Olympics, spoke at the Virginia Mid-Year meeting about the Special Olympics. SK Joey Wheeler is currently considering joining this Assembly. District Deputy, SK Dan Turgeon, PGK, PFN noted that the president for the March For Life, Jeanne Mancini, made a presentation at the Virginia Mid-Year meeting. She stated that the March For Life depends on the support of the Knights of Columbus as Marshalls for the success of the event. The District Deputy asked all in attendance to try to support this event. District Deputy Turgeon also noted that the location of the start of the march has been moved this year, and the Marshalls will be needed to help direct people to the correct starting location. Al Grimmig, Associate District Marshal, congratulated the Assembly on the starting of this new Assembly. He also asked all in attendance to remember their Patriotic Degree Oath, to protect and defend the Constitution, the sanctity of the ballot and bringing credit upon the Church. He is looking forward to working with us in the future. Meeting closed with prayers for our nation and the singing of the Closing Ode. The meeting adjourned at 9:10 PM.
