1 University of California, San Diego Political Science 120H (2010) European Integration Winter 2010 Prof. W.M. Chandler Tu/Th 11:00-12:20 SSB - 385 Room: PCYNH 122 Off. Hrs: Tu/Th 3:30-4:30 TA: Emily Matthews (eomatthews@ucsd.edu) wchandler@ucsd.edu GENERAL This course provides an understanding of the politics of European integration. The introduction examines the development of the EC/EU and reviews theories of integration. Subsequently, we investigate the functioning of core institutions and central actors in building an ever closer union. In considering the challenges of creating a supranational political regime, analysis will also consider conflict and consensus among member states. Viewed broadly, the course evaluates the degree to which convergence and cohesion have been achieved via economic, social and political integration. EVALUATION You may choose between two options in 120H. Option A consists of examinations only, in which your grade will be calculated on the basis on the mid-term and final examinations.
