Gardner Secretary PRESENTATIONS CERTIFICATE AND LETTER OF APPRECIATION CST. CHARLES FORTIER Chief Zapotichny presented Cst. Fortier with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Assistant Commissioner Bud Mercer, Chief Operating Officer of the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit. The certificate was in recognition of dedicated service in the performance of duties as a member of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Security Team. 1. Police Board Members Verbal Update Karen Foss Attended the Crime Prevention Unit Volunteer Awards Banquet March 26 and the NWPS Mess Dinner on April 9 th. Victim Assistance Unit AGM scheduled for May 13. In support of the Victim Assistance Association the New Westminster Police Officers Association has volunteered to pay the annual VAU membership fees for Board members. Kim Husband On March 23 attended the Douglas College Award Reception and the Crime Prevention Unit Volunteer Awards Banquet on March 26. Minutes of NWPB April 20, 2010 Page 2 of 5
Ron Basran Attended the NWPS Mess Dinner on April 9 th. Extended thanks to everyone involved in organizing the event and special thanks to Leo Braniff for the Toast to Fallen Comrades. Carol Ann Hart Attended the NWPS Crime Prevention Unit Volunteer Award Banquet on 26 Mar, thanked Shelley Cole for organizing the event. On April 9 th attended the NWPS Annual Mess Dinner, thanked Insp. Stenerson and the organization committee for a great evening. Mayor Wright Attended as above. Chair Wright spoke of the Honour House Dedication on April 24 th. He remarked I believe this will be on of the highlights of my time as Mayor. Honour House, the first of its in in Canada will provide a refuge, a place of unity and composure for Canadian forces personnel, first responders and their families to stay while healing occurs at no cost to them. Honour House will officially open during Veteran s Week in November 2010. Police Board members congratulated the Mayor on this accomplishment. 4.2. Statistics Deputy Chief Jones There are positive trends taking place in the community due to a combination of efforts by the City and the police. Total Criminal Code statistics continue to decline. Statistics for 2009 reflect 6% decrease overall and down 5% year to date. 5. DIVISIONAL REPORTS 5.1. Patrol Division Inspector Walcott 5.2. Policy Reviewed/Approved Delegated Authority Chief Constable Zapotichny Chief Zapotichny reported there are over 200 policies and procedures for the organization of which 26 were reviewed in the month of March. Chief Zapotichny referred to the monthly update on policies and procedures advising 26 polices were reviewed this month. He also noted there are over 200 policies and procedures within the organization. MOVED AND SECONDED (Husband/Foss) THAT: the Board accept the policies reviewed and approved by the Chief Constable. CARRIED 7.2. 2009 Achievements /Successes Chief Zapotichny/Mark Wilson Reported on the accomplishments for 2009 Mr. Wilson provided a powerpoint presentation that highlighted the department s 2009 accomplishments. These achievements will be published as a four page report A Year In Review acknowledging the accomplishments and successes achieved by the organization and its members during the past year.
