Nomination Guide The presents annual awards to recognise substantial service, usually of a voluntary nature, benefitting the City of Christchurch and its people. Any significant contribution, service, activity or achievement may be nominated for a civic award. Individuals or groups, organisations, associations or societies, companies and businesses may also be nominated. Who can be nominated for an award? Any individual or organisation that carries out substantial work, usually of a voluntary nature, benefiting Christchurch and its people. Nominees need not be resident or located in Christchurch, and can be of any age. Who can make a nomination? Nominations must be presented by individuals or organisations who are resident or located in Christchurch. All nominations need to have one nominator and two supporting nominators. All nominators will need to a sign a nomination form. An association, society or corporate entity making a nomination must include the names, titles and signatures of three executive members. Where appropriate it must be confirmed that the nomination was endorsed at a properly constituted meeting and recorded in the minutes. How do I make a nomination? Visit the s website ccc.govt.nz (keyword: ) for a downloadable version of the nomination form. It can be completed online and will need to be printed before you and other nominators sign it. The nomination Guide and Form are also available from all CCC service centres and libraries. Your nomination needs to be complete in every respect, with detailed information that is true and accurate. The information you provide must be independently verifiable. Your nominee will be judged entirely on the basis of the information you provide. Incomplete information, inaccurate detail or unsubstantiated claims may result in an unsuccessful nomination. You may attach supporting documentation, letters of support that you believe will help the judges make a decision. Completed nominations must be received by the due date of 10 August. Late nominations will be held for consideration for the following year. The receipt of your nomination will be acknowledged by letter or by e-mail. Do I need permission from the nominee? This is not a requirement. Anyone chosen for an award will have the opportunity to accept or decline this award. They will also be informed that you were their nominator. Can a Christchurch Civic Award be made to a deceased person? A person is eligible to be nominated for a posthumous award if they had died within a 12 month period prior to the closing date of nominations. Are there awards for work that affects only a part of the city? Yes, the Community Service Awards. For more information, please contact your local service centre or your Community Board member. How are nominations judged? The appoints a subcommittee of elected members to consider nominations. The panel reviews each nomination on its merits and presents a shortlist of candidates for the s approval. How do I know if my nomination is successful? All successful nominees will be informed of their award. The newspapers will carry a list of the year s Civic Award winners. You may also be contacted by a staff member if your nominee has accepted the award. What do I do if my nominee is unsuccessful? You are free to make fresh nomination for the same person for the next year if you feel that you could include additional information. When are the Awards presented? The are presented by the Mayor on behalf of the at a simple ceremony held in the Civic Offices towards the end of each year. Can a person receive more than one Civic Award? No, if the nominee has already received an award, they are not eligible to be nominated for another, even if it is for a different activity or contribution.
