Returning to Lithuania This document provides information and details of organisations which may be useful if you are facing removal or deportation to Lithuania. While every care is taken to ensure that the information is correct this does not constitute a guarantee that the organisations will provide the services listed. Your Embassy in the UK Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania Lithuania House 2 Bessborough Gardens SW1V 2JE Tel: 020 7592 2840 Fax: 020 7592 2864 Email: amb.uk@urm.lt uk.mfa.lt Travel documents A valid Lithuanian passport or national identity card can be used to remove you from the UK to Lithuania. If you do not have a passport then a document known as an EU Letter will be needed to facilitate removal. You will need to provide any supporting evidence of identity such as expired passports or identity cards, birth certificates etc. Return If you are willing to return and want to ensure that you are returned to Lithuania as soon as possible you can: Contact your caseworker at the Home Office to say that you are willing to return; Make every effort to find supporting documentation for issuing of travel documents; Make contact with the Lithuania Embassy to begin the process of obtaining a travel document. You may find it useful to read the information below to begin preparing for your return. Documentation in Lithuania Possession of a national identity card is mandatory for all Lithuanian citizens over the age of 16. An identity card can be obtained through the local municipal office. For more information see www.dokumentai.lt/. Accommodation Although Lithuania has some social housing available to rent, the majority of accommodation is privately owned or rented. There is a government scheme to assist permanent residents to buy a home. However, in the short term, there are some homelessness hostels particularly in the cities which may be able to provide temporary accommodation if you are unable to find accommodation through family and friends. For details see the directory below. Health While emergency medical care and care for all children up to the age of 18 is free, other health services in Lithuania are funded through the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (CHIF). Compulsory payments are taken from the wages of employed people and paid by self-employed people. A number of people who are not employed or self-employed are considered to be insured by the state and are therefore still able to access free health care. These include: Unemployed people who are registered with local labour exchange offices or involved in vocational training schemes organised by labour exchange offices;

Women on maternity leave or unemployed women from the 28th week of pregnancy up to 56 days after the birth of the child; One of the parents raising a child under 8 years of age; Persons who are recognised as disabled under Lithuanian law; Persons with a publicly dangerous communicable disease as defined by the Ministry of Health. For full details of insured persons or for further enquiries you can find information here: www. vlk.lt/sites/en/health-insurance-in-lithuania or contact the Territorial Health Insurance Funds. Single homeless people are unlikely to be entitled to benefits. While the payment of many benefits depends on having paid national insurance contributions, there are some benefits for which contributions are not necessary in particular social assistance for households who receive less than the State Supported Income. Applications for this benefit are processed by the municipalities and applications should be made directly to them.
