Dear <<NAME(S)~>> Property Title number Registered proprietor You appear to be the registered proprietor (owner) of the above property. I am writing to you, and to other people with a similar name, to ask for your help in identifying the debtor named in the bankruptcy proceedings briefly described in section 2 below. If you are not that person, I apologise for troubling you, and for any distress or inconvenience caused. However, even if you are not the named debtor, please read sections 3 and 4 below and reply to this letter. 1. Why have I sent you this letter? Land Registry is informed when any bankruptcy proceedings are commenced against a debtor. The law* requires that details of the proceedings must be recorded, as soon as possible, against all property which the debtor appears to own. The reasons for doing this are: 1 of 5
to stop debtors from disposing of their assets and so protect people who are owed money to protect intending buyers of property which may be affected by the bankruptcy proceedings. Debtors often move and sometimes use different names. There may be a number of people in one area whose names and addresses are the same as, or similar to, those of the debtor. Land Registry has to make enquiries of them all and this is why I am writing to you. This is part of the process of administering justice and protecting people who are owed money.
