CALL TO ORDER; WELCOME; ROLL CALL Chair Bland called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. Valerie Carrillo called the roll. A quorum was established for the Commission. 2. PUBLIC COMMENT LIMITED TO ITEMS ON THIS SPECIAL MEETING AGENDA (Limited to 3 minutes) No public comment. Note: Chair Bland took the following item out of order from the published agenda. 4. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES, APRIL 10, 2017 Following review, it was moved (Montgomery) and seconded (Cornell) to approve the Minutes of the April 10, 2017 meeting (Motion unanimously carried), (Abstain: Yepez-Hernandez), (Excused: Farr, Holliday, Wolf). 5. NEW BUSINESS ACTION ITEMS 6

NOMINATIONS There was a discussion on the process of nominations. Staff provided direction to the Nominating Committee. INFORMATION ITEM ONLY SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF PASADENA ALTADENA Chair Bland provided an overview of the meeting she attended on April 26, 2017. THE CONVENTION ON THE ELIMINATION OF ALL FORMS OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN (CEDAW) (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 14) Item Tabled. COLLABORATIVE OPPORTUNITIES (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 15) The following collaborative opportunities were provided by the Commissioners: o Pasadena Education Network Meeting was held on April 23, 2017 o League of Women Voters along with City Club, Meeting May 26, 2017 5:30 6:30 p.m. o A movie on equal pay for women, June 2017 at the Women s City Club. FRIENDS OF THE COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN FUNDRAISING An overview was provided. Staff Galvez will provide information regarding a fundraising holding account. SOCIAL MEDIA: ENGAGING CONSTITUENTS Commissioner Fernandez provided an overview on recommendations to the Commission website. Staff Galvez informed the Commission that the new website will be launched in June 2017. 6. UPDATES/REPORTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM COMMISSIONERS INFORMATION ITEMS ONLY UPDATES: HUMAN TRAFFICKING OUTREACH PROJECT: SB 1193 IMPLEMENTATION (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 8) Staff will resubmit request to the Department Director regarding providing a link to the City website to be included on the signage. It was mentioned that the next step of implementation would be enforcement. 7

Staff will inquire on which city department will be responsible for enforcement of the signage. AMENDMENTS OF COMMISSION RULES AND REGULATIONS It was mentioned that the Human Services and Recreation Department is waiting for the other department Commissions to update and approve their Rules and Regulations so they can be presented to City Council at one time. TITLE IX AND AB 2494 GENDER EQUALITY POLICY (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 13) A copy of Senate Bill 169 was distributed for review and filing. CURRENT WOMEN POLICY ISSUES Chair Bland provided an overview of some of the Legislations such as: Policies and Collaboration, Economic Security, Equal Pay, SB 63 Parental Leave, and Gender Disparities. REPORTS: SURVIVAL GUIDE (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 3 & 4) Item Tabled. RAISING THE PROFILE ON THE COMMISSION (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 6) It was mentioned that there will be a Pasadenahelp.org Launch Party for the searchable online Community Resource Guide on May 11, 2017 at City Hall 6:30 p.m. Vice Chair Yepez-Hernanedz requested staff to inquire if the Survival Guide was used as a base for the online Resource Guide, and if so, can the Commission on the Status of Women be named on the website. OPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN MEDIA (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 7) Ongoing. ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA COMMISSION FOR WOMEN (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 10) Chair Bland provided an overview of the meeting she attended on April 1, 2017. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COMMISSION FOR WOMEN (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 10) The National Association of Commission for Women meeting will be held on July 11-18, 2017, in Buffalo New York. Staff was requested to inquire if there is budget for the registration fee of $400.00. 8

REPORT ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN IN PASADENA (WORKPLAN OBJECTIVE 16) Item Tabled. NACW CONFERENCE MEETING, JULY 2017, NEW YORK Item discussed. ANNOUNCEMENTS The following announcements were made: o Mayor Tornek will be hosting a gathering for the Commissioners he has appointed on May 22, 2017. o Police and Fire Memorial, May 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall. 7. STAFF COMMENTS/UPDATES Aquatics Lessons begin June 5, 2017 and Summer Day Camps begin June 12, 2017. 8. SUGGESTED AGENDA ITEMS FOR FURTURE COMMISSION MEETINGS None 9.
