Dr. Robinson developed a life-long interest in Cymbidium species and primary hybrids during his time as the Eric Young Orchid Scholar at the Royal Horticultural Society in the early 1980s. For those who attended the recent CSA Congress, he was one of the featured speakers. Plant Table: The plant table will be composed of plants, many of them species, from Santa Barbara Orchid Estate. Dinner at 5:45 PM with the Speaker: March 21 st at the Silver House Restaurant, 2224 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA, 94403. Members and guests are welcome. Call Marron Honigman at 408-807-9124 by Thursday March 20 th to be included in the dinner reservation group. Board Meeting: March 21 st at 5:00 PM at the Silver House Restaurant, 2224 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA, 94403. Call Marron Honigman at 408-807-9124 if you cannot attend. Nominating Committee: The nominating Committee, chaired by Florence Inserto and consisting of one other Board member and three Members at Large was chosen last month. Their proposed slate of officers for 2014-2015 will be presented at this month's Board Meeting and the nominating committee report will then be announced in the April newsletter. Additional candidates will be considered until the close of the April meeting with voting for the new officers at the May meeting. Plant Sales Begin at 7 PM: All plants brought for sale by members must be properly labeled, priced (in even dollar amounts) and free of disease. 10% of the sale price will go to the club; the remainder goes to the individual seller. Label each sale plant and provide a summary sheet of your sale plants at the sales table. Sales forms will be available at the sales table if you need them. Plant sales close prior to the start of the raffle. Supplies for sale at the March meeting: Unprinted labels, single-edged razor blades, pens, Twist Ties, pots of assorted sizes, 3' and 4' bamboo stakes, MSU Romeo blend fertilizer, freeze cloth, and dual virus testing kits are for sale at cost plus tax as usual. President's Message: As I get ready to travel to Santa Barbara for the big show and the CSA Congress, I want to thank you all for getting those CSA membership forms in! I think it is critical for our club to lead the way in memberships and show its support for our parent club! Congratulations to Bill Weaver for being a first time participant in the Congress and taking the GCCG up on its offer of a free registration. At our next meeting, I am introducing one of my students, who has just started growing orchids and is well on his way with an amazing collection. Welcome Michael Byun!

Refreshments for the March Meeting: Tony and Doug thank all the members who brought refreshments to the February meeting. Please ensure that all items are labeled with the name of the provider so that Tony can record the names for the next newsletter and provide the 5 free raffle tickets prior to the draw. Glenn/Lorna Affleck Carol Armendariz Gloria Bygdnes Sylvia Darr Noble Emery Carole Finnegan Cora Gadduang Mike/Annie Green Trudy Hadler Marron Honigman Florence Inserto Mel/Val Jones Christine Kradjian Kalan Toy Audrey Young-Tarter CSA Membership: Members are strongly encouraged to join the Cymbidium Society of America. The CSA is the parent organization of the GCCG and provides liability insurance for GCCG events. Contact Darrel Wong at any of the GCCG meetings for CSA membership information. Dues are $35.00 per year, include a subscription to the CSA Journal and should be mailed to Eric Andreasen, 5710 Hollister Avenue. #270, Goleta, CA 93117. GCCG Show: Our Show is only a month away and everyone should be keeping an eye on those special plants which they plan to enter, as well as letting our chairs Sylvia Darr and Marron Honigman know the jobs for which you are willing to volunteer. The show schedule will be detailed in the April newsletter but the schedule and sales forms are currently on the GCCG website. Entry cards will be available at this month's meeting. Show judging will take place on Friday night, April 19. The show will be open to the public on Saturday, April 20, from 10 AM to 4 PM, and will include member plant sales. Many members signed up last month to help but there is always room for more members in all those little tasks that help make a show successful. There will still be an opportunity to sign-up at this meeting. Plant Judging: The CSA judges Cymbidiums, Paphiopedilums, and Phragmipediums at our regular meetings by prior arrangement. To have a plant judged, call David Pyles 650-483-2447 at least one day in advance, to ensure that the CSA judges know that plants will be submitted for judging. Plant entry is between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM the evening of judging. Clerks can advise you in filling out the plant entry form on your arrival. Judging is also available at the Golden Gate Branch. Call David for entry information. The AOS judges all genera of orchids in San Francisco at the SF County Fair Building (Hall of Flowers) in Golden Gate Park on the first Tuesday, and in Oakland at the Lakeside Garden Center on the third Monday, of each month. For either judging, plants need to be submitted to the clerks between 6:15 PM and 7:00 PM. Call Sylvia Darr 510-769-1613 for more information. CSA and/or AOS judging takes place at most of the local shows. Contact the show organizers for specifics regarding plant entry for judging.
