Opening of Meeting President Pipolo called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. II. Approval of Minutes Upon motion duly made by Trustee Hodys and seconded by Trustee Germani it was hereby approves the minutes of the Regular Meeting of January 23, 2013 and the Planning Session of February 6, 2013. III. Communications There were no communications. IV. Citizens Privilege of the Floor There were no comments. V. Reports: Community and School Groups a. PTSA President Gina Calcagni reported on the various upcoming activities sponsored by the PTSA. The spring fair will be held on April 6 th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the middle/high school campus. Volunteers are needed. Mrs. Calcagni urged everyone to participate in the advocacy letter writing campaign. Rye Neck Board of Education Regular Meeting, February 27, 2013 Page 1
b. Booster Club Athletic Director, Joe Ceglia, spoke on behalf of the Booster. Boosters will be selling clothing at the high school musical. Boosters also need volunteers for the spring fair. Anyone interested should contact Joan Spedafino. c. Student Senate The semi-formal dance held on February 15 was a great success with 240 students in attendance. The Senate continues to work with Dr. Kurtz to ensure that the library is being used for serious study. The Senate will also participate in the walk for pancreatic cancer on April 21 st at Rye Town Park. d. RNTA President, Melinda Merkel reported that the RNTA is currently working on the 2013-14 school calendar. The union is looking ahead to negotiations for APPR. Upcoming school events include: Bellows science expo and 5 th grade concert, middle school science fair and high school musical. VI. Reports - Superintendent a. Recognition Director of Guidance, Mrs. Ann Wallace, introduced Ryan Baal, National Merit Scholarship Finalist. b. Curriculum Presentation English Language Arts/Reading Program Daniel Warren and Bellows schools piloted three ELA programs. The programs had to be comprehensive, rigorous and aligned to the common core. After evaluation of each program it was decided the Treasures program best fit the criteria. Elementary Principal, Marge Longabucco introduced Fran Bonitatibus and Ann Cullagh, Bellows staff members, who presented an overview of the elementary English Language Arts/Reading Program. Fifth grader, Julia Flood, gave a report entitled Mamaroneck, Then and Now which incorporated the principles of the Treasures program. VII. Personnel Dr. Mustich announced that Director of Guidance, Ann Wallace, will retire at the end of the school year. Her resignation was accepted at the February 6, 2013 Planning Session. a. Appointment - Leave Position Upon motion duly made by Trustee Hodys and seconded by Trustee Gottlieb it was, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby agrees to appoint Jayme Cohen to a leave position as school Psychologist, effective March 4, 2013. b. , upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby agrees to accept the resignation of Melissa Johannessen, effective March 22, 2013. c. Leave Upon motion duly made by Trustee Shaner and seconded by Trustee Aulfinger it was, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby agrees to grant Jacqueline Fricchione an unpaid FMLA leave, effective February 13, 2013 through March 1, 2013. d. Retirement, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby agrees to accept the resignation of Edward DeLucia for the purpose of retiring, effective June 30, 2013. VIII. Board of Education a. Office Hours Office hours will be held March 6 th at 5:30 p.m. in the MS/HS Library Community Room. Board representatives will be Trustees Hodys and Aulfinger. Please contact the district clerk by Friday, March 1st and state your topic of interest. b. West/Put Trustee Gottlieb reported that advocacy is the primary topic of interest for West/Put. There will be a meeting with NYS Senator George Latimer and Representative Steve Otis to voice concerns regarding the lack of mandate relief. Trustee Gottlieb urged the community to visit the district website to send letters to our state legislators. There is strength in numbers. c. Audit Committee Trustee Hodys reported that the committee will meet with Steve Robbins, District Claims Auditor, sometime in the near future. IX. Upon motion duly made by Trustee Hodys and seconded by Trustee Shaner, it was hereby approves the following financial reports: Treasurer s Report-January 2013, General Fund Appropriation Status Report, Revenues Status Report. A roll call vote was taken Warrant Schedules All Funds were presented to the Board for information purposes. X. Unfinished Business There was no unfinished business. XI.. New Business Approve 2013-14 School Calendar Upon motion duly made by Trustee Gottlieb and seconded by Trustee Germani it was hereby agrees to approve the proposed 2013-14 school calendar, as per attached. Approve CSE Recommendations hereby agrees to arrange for special education placement as recommended by the Committee on Special Education, as per attached. XII.
