BOK, Derek Curtis The First Three Tears of the Schuman Plan, PEINCETON STUDIES IN INTERNATIONAL FINANCE, No. 5, Princeton: International Finance Section, Dec. 1955
INTERNATIONAL FINANCE SECTION (Department of Economics and Sociology) PRINCETON UNIVERSITY PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY The International Finance Section has published, as No. 5 in its series Princeton Studies in International Finance, an 80-page monograph by Derek Curtis Bok entitled "The First Three Years of the Schuman Plan." Mr. Bok is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School. Based upon a year's research in Paris and Luxembourg on a Fulbright Scholarship, his study covers the activities of the European Coal and Steel Community up to September 1955 and analyzes the operation of the plan in the context of its original economic and political objectives and the institutions created to carry them out. The problems which have arisen in attempting to create a common market for the coal and steel industries of Western Europe, as well as the measures introduced by the High Authority to stimulate competition, are treated in detail. There is a special chapter on the effects of introducing greater competition in these industries on the economies of member countries. Single copies of this monograph may be obtained directly from the International Finance Section at the above address. United States residents are asked to accompany their requests with twenty-five cents in coin or stamps to help cover handling and mailing costs, but there is no charge for residents of foreign countries.
