The next President Intro:-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi called for a conscience vote just before the election, and a sizeable number of Congress parliamentarians and legislators voted against the official candidate, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy in favour of V.V. Giri in 1969. At present, the numbers are stacked against the opposition for the July 17 election. Bharatiya Janata Party, with its regular allies and new-found friends, should be able to see any non-controversial candidate through. Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which do not see the BJP as a political threat, have indicated their readiness to back a BJP-sponsored candidate. Much might revolve around the BJP s choice of candidate. Ideally,Congress would like to wait for the BJP to announce its candidate before revealing its own. For the BJP to not get its person of choice through as the next President, 2017 will have to throw up an unexpected twist or a complete surprise

Getting back on the growth track Intro:-A big push on private investment is needed. Social harmony is also a prerequisite(शर त) for faster growth. Impact of demonetisation-q3 vs Q4 Role of new investment Growth can happen -greater utilisation of existing capacity or new investment. New investment that will push growth and that will generate greater employment- Foreign direct investment -New technology. The Bankruptcy Code has become operational. Goods and Services Tax will very soon come into force. Burden of debt- NPA Monsoon is expected to be normal in the current year

Clouded coherence Intro:- Given India s recent foreign policy fluidity- sustainability of SCO membership is in doubt. The phrase Where you stand depends on where you sit, also called Miles s Law, was coined by Rufus Miles, an American bureaucrat To describe how one s policy changes according to one s location. India takes its place as a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Astana Many are wondering just where Indian foreign policy stands on the basis of where India is sitting, along with Russia, China, Pakistan. SCO membership has many obvious advantages: being a part of 1)-A major security coalition in Asia, 2)-Easy access to the energy-rich stans, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. 3)-It is an important forum on counter-terrorism cooperation, 4)-Connectivity, and on 5)-Resolving the situation in Afghanistan.

Continue Membership may thus have seemed a good idea when India- took observer status in 2005. When it applied for full member status in 2014 But in 2017 so much has changed in India s foreign policy posture that the sustainability of its SCO membership is in doubt. India s stand last month on China s Belt and Road Initiative (B&R) Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said 1)- sovereignty issues over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) part of the B&R, 2)-Environmental worries and 3)-Concerns over the unsustainable debt burden for smaller countries, 4)-As well as over the lack of transparency from China. All SCO members are a part of B&R and endorse(समर तन) it. Supporting the B&R as the SCO s vehicle for regional economic cooperation.

Continue SCO is a security alliance, not a cultural or geographically based coalition, and Its charter in 2001 specifies confidence-building in military fields Astana in 2005- Jointly preserving regional peace, security and stability; and Establishing a democratic, fair and rational new international political and economic order. SCO has been called the Anti-NATO, to counterbalance U.S. and Europe power structures. India s close military ties with the U.S. today Closer strategic partnership with the EU South China Sea today. Pakistan s cross-border terror policy Australia s request to join Malabar naval exercises with Japan, India and the U.S.

Conclusion 1)-America s capriciousness(मनम ज ), 2)-West Asia s internal combustion, 3)-China s aggression and 4)-Russian inscrutability(रहस यमयर ), The government must, however, be more sure-footed and clear of its own principles of engagement, rather than of where it stands being guided by where it sits or more precisely.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), or Shanghai Pact, is a Eurasian political, economic, and military organisation which was founded in 1996 in Shanghai By the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan, had been members of the Shanghai Five, founded in 1996; Uzbekistan in 2001, the members renamed the organisation. 2015, the SCO decided to admit India and Pakistan as full members. Next meeting at Astana in 2017.

A level playing field Maternity Benefit Act of 1961, Parliament introduced much needed amendments The amendments in the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill, 2016 Working woman gets time to exclusively breastfeed her child for six months after birth. Features of the Bill 1)-Maternity leave available to working women from 12 to 26 weeks-for the first two children. 2)-Who have more than two children would continue to have a 12-week maternity leave. 3)-12 weeks is also available to mothers adopting a child below the age of three months 4)-As well as to the commissioning mothers- As a biological mother who uses her egg to create an embryo planted in any other woman. 5)-Over 50 employees have to provide for crèche facilities for working mothers 6)-Permitted to make four visits during work hours 7)-Permit a new mother to work from home- mutually agreed- Employer and the mother The amendments are, however, silent on whether these enhanced maternity rights would extend to women engaged in unorganised labour and domestic work.
