Targeting and Tracking Coalition Members

Communications The ability to use media and communications is essential to building timely public and political support and countering opposing arguments. Critical competencies for successful communications: Understanding your audience Developing smart, simple messages Framing issues for the public at large and for targeted audiences; Utilizing earned media to build awareness and generate support Developing electronic mechanisms and other communications strategies for conveying timely information to grassroots organizations, advocacy organizations, and other supporters

Grassroots Organizing Grassroots organizing is critical to building organizations, advocacy operations, and campaigns. Grassroots organizing engages people at the local level and engages those who are most likely to experience the impacts of negative policies. Grassroots organizing includes: Building leadership Building a base of popular support for advocacy initiatives among people who are directly affected by policy decisions; Putting a human face on the issue and demonstrating popular support for change by equipping people to take action; Influencing key decision-makers in local and regional settings by empowering and equipping their constituents to tell their story

Pyramid of Engagement Leadership Commitment Participation Interest Awareness

Alliance for a Healthy Kansas: 2016 Summer/Fall Tour

Campaign Development Planning and implementing advocacy campaigns requires: The identification of inside decision-makers who can function as champions for the desired policy outcomes; Building and maintaining alliances to expand, support and reduce opposition; Orchestrating the involvement of campaign partners and allies so they do the right thing at the right time in decision-making processes; and Closely tracking the policy process for intervention opportunities, then move quickly to take advantage of them.
