Hampton Roads Republican Women s Club Newsletter FEBRUARY 2017 President s Message Susan Yungbluth, President I truly know that everyone enjoyed the inauguration of the 45 th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. Everyone who worked hard and long hours in the headquarters, knocking on doors, organizing events, attending events, working the polls and contributing to campaigns across the Hampton Roads Peninsula deserves a little basking in the sun! Now it s down to the business at hand to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Speaking of that slogan, on March 18, 2017, 6:00 PM at the Marriott City Center, we will be attending the annual Lincoln-Reagan Gala/Dinner where we will honor the principles of Lincoln and Reagan and celebrate the triumphant win of Donald J. Trump. Tickets are $50.00 for a wonderful event, featuring Scottie Nell Hughes, Political Commentator and Author, as guest speaker. Invitations have been sent to electronically or by regular mail for those without computer access. This is the major fundraiser for the Republican Women s Clubs and City Committees on the Peninsula and a lovely event every year. I would hope that as many of you as possible, put on your party dresses and attend. The City Committees receives return funds based on attendance from committee members. The proceeds are then turned around to fund this year s candidates and we will have a few including our own Heather Cordasco for Delegate. We can get you there and home if transportation is a problem. It s a fun and simple way to fill our campaign coffers and Mary Ann Canale might be off the hook again to organize a fundraiser! is the Committee Treasurer and, as President of this Club, I sit on the committee and am tasked with decorating the venue. Mary Ann Canale has started the 30 table centerpieces and if anyone is so inclined to assist us please talk to Mary Ann. Annual dues were due in January, so any member or associate member who has not paid please get them in to Lou ASAP. Remember my goal is 75 members in 2017, so get your friends and Trump supporters to join us this exciting year. 1 st VP Pat Woodbury will be lining up interesting speakers to include many of the Candidates for State office in November. We are becoming known for our informative and interesting monthly programs. Speaking of upcoming elections, if anyone is interested in working INSIDE the polls, either for the June primary or November election please let me know or call the City Registrar. We seem to be short every cycle now and could use more true Republican representation to work these polling places. The VFRW Convention is coming up April 28-30 in beautiful Roanoke. Every year it seems the same members attend. It would be wonderful to see some new faces at the meetings and work sessions, where you can share some fresh ideas on various topics. Consider going with us this year we do all the driving! It s a fun ladies get away, as well as, the work we will accomplish for the VFRW going forward. Remember the meetings are now the 2 nd Saturday of the month, 10:00 AM at Vintner s Wine Cellar. See you there. Bring your friends!

Legislative Update Jan Jordan Legislative Chairman 2017 Calendar of Events Newport News City Committee Knights of Columbus February 21 st 7:00 PM The General Assembly is currently in Crossover and the following are highlights from bills passed: The House passed Voter Fraud Laws which require: proof of citizenship and a photo id before registering for absentee ballots. The Senate passed a Regulatory Rollback amendment which allows legislators to veto regulations created by the Executive Branch, and can be done by a simple majority of the House and Senate. There is a 1.2 billion revenue shortfall in the budget; however, there was approval for a one percent increase in funding for mental health and safety net programs; a two percent increase for public teachers' salary and a three percent increase for state employees. HRRWC President Susan Yungbluth and I went to Richmond for VFRW Legislative Day. We had the opportunity to me with some of the Delegates and Senators to discuss upcoming legislative and voicing our opinions. Most all Republican Legislators joined us for lunch, including Delegate David Yancey. What a great time painting the town RED with Republican Women from across the state. Well it s about time or keeping up with the times. We have a member who is taking over the Facebook page, has established a Twitter account and will be developing a website for HRRWC. Finally we are moving into the 21 st century. Kristen Plummer is one of our newest members and we want say THANK YOU for taking over this daunting task. She has already been improving our Facebook page and we now have a Twitter account @HRRWCVA. This will be a great way to let people know about us and increase our membership, so visit our Facebook page and be sure to like and share. And if you tweet, follow our twitter postings. @HRRWCVA Hampton Roads Republican Women s Club

Delegate Davis is running for Lt. Governor. He is pictured here with his wife Chelle. As First Vice President Patricia Woodbury s job is arranging for the programs at the monthly meetings. She makes a great effort to have interesting and informative speakers. But at times it is a challenge. This year we have the Governor s race with plenty of candidates that we would like to have speak and Pat is trying arrange for them to come to a meeting giving us the opportunity to make an informed decision of who we would like to support. Thank you Pat for making our meetings enjoyable and interesting! President Susan Yungbluth and 1st Vice President welcomed guest speaker Dacia Marxrieser with Modern Republican Women to our February meeting.

In another attempt to stifle freedom of expression, President Trump and his administration have dismantled the White House switchboard comment operating system. FAKE NEWS! The White House phone-in comment line was non-operational in January 2017, but the change took place during President Obama's administration. The were responsible for shutting down the comment line. Apparently this is nothing new, nor unusual, to discontinue the comment line in order for the new administration to have an opportunity to establish their own comment line. The comment line is up and running and may be reached at 202-456-1111 If you are interested in attending the 2017 Lincoln Reagan Dinner on March 18th and have not received an invitation, printed or electronically, please call or email 757-817-2988 lrdinner757@gmail.com The 2017 VFRW Convention will be held at Hotel Roanoke from April 28 thru April 30 th. At the March HRRWC meeting we will be electing delegates to go to the annual VFRW Convention. Our club qualifies for 4 delegates and 4 alternate delegates. The club pays for the registration of the 4 delegates. This is an opportunity to meet and network with Republican women from across the state. If you are interested in going to the convention and being a nominee as a delegate, contact club president Susan Yungbluth.
