AP Human Geography Summer Assignment Welcome to Advanced Placement Human Geography! I am so glad you have decided to take this course! Throughout the year, this course will introduce students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth s surface. AP Human is similar to history, but instead of human development based on time and place we will look at human development across the space of our planet. So, why take AP Human? This course will help you have a better understanding of other social studies classes you will take such as history, economics, or psychology. Even more importantly, AP Human will help you have a better understanding of the world around you! In order to help you prepare for our year together, you need to complete the two parts of this summer assignment. Both of these assignments will be due the second week of school! Part 1: Culture Gram One important skill of geography is to make real-world applications for complicated principles and theories. This will require a wide knowledge of the world. To help you build your geography knowledge pool, you will fill out a culture gram for one country from each major region of the world. You can use whatever resources you would like for your analysis. I have posted some useful links on my website: http://wilkinsaphug.weebly.com/summer-assignment.html. When you are done you will have 8 culture grams filled out. You will find the templates attached to this packet. Part 2: World Atlas Another important skill of geography is to acquire an understanding of the spatial organization of the world. The understanding of world locations will be imperative to your success in this class. You need to complete the maps on my website to create your own World Atlas. We will refer back to these maps frequently over the year as we prepare for the AP Exam in May, so there are some guidelines: - Please clearly and accurately label the listed items on the provided maps. - All maps must be completed by hand. - You may use abbreviations, color coding, number coding, etc. but each country must be labeled neatly I have attached the list of countries you will need to label. You can find the maps you need to complete on my website: http://wilkinsaphug.weebly.com/summer-assignment.html. Are you are interested in more information about AP Human Geography? Have a great summer -Ms. Wilkins
