Chairman s Comments Last summer our SME Chapter sponsored me to attend the SME National Leadership Conference in Salt Lake City. I appreciate that very much. In addition to being exposed to some great chapter leadership tips and meeting other leaders around the country, I also learned about many of the great SME programs that take place on a national level. For example, the SME Foundation awards over 100 scholarships to high school seniors annually. That could be very valuable for a lot of people. Go to SME.org for more information. There is also a wealth of information at that web site. You can ask the librarian a question, go to the Technical Community Network, purchase documents as well as get a lot of free help. I encourage you to explore the web site. As your new Chairman this year, I take SME and this chapter very seriously. There are a lot of good volunteers that work behind the scenes for this Chapter. Once a month, on the first Wednesday, the Executive Committee meets in the morning, has a little breakfast, and talks about the events that take place during the year. It takes a lot of planning to organize the tours, educational seminars, student paper events, and social events that are held each year. The more people we have helping, the easier it is for everyone. If you would like the rewarding feeling of volunteering a small portion of your time, all members and guests are welcome to attend these meetings. They are held at Donna s Diner, 15112 East Sprague Avenue, at 6:00am every first Wednesday of the month. Breakfast is on us! If you or someone you know can organize or host a manufacturing tour, please pass information along to us about it. We have a goal of hosting at least 10 events this year and tours are very popular. Finally, we will be implementing a $5.00 charge for tours starting in February. We are implementing this charge to help offset the costs of hosting all of the events that we do on a local level, including our awarding of scholarship money to students at our annual student paper contest.
