BLING Youth Voter Pre-Registration Celebration 4

Commissioner and youth trainers (Cicely Henderson, Department of Elections Youth Ambassador) debriefed the project as a whole. Positives: -many youth didn t know they could pre-register and now they do -it was easy to convince them to pre-register but then wouldn t have their IDs (ssn, CA ID, Driver s License) -one student has made this available to almost all upper class folks -one student did presentation to his YouthWorks cohort and since they already had their SSN it was easy to get them to pre register Negatives: -biggest hurdle from all trainers was the lack of driver s license, social security numbers, or CA IDs -some youth didn t think it was important to pre-register -one student experienced not being trusted to turn in the forms if they were filled out -some didn t want to pre-register as they felt a sense of hopelessness regarding Trump and that their vote wouldn t matter anyways B. Discuss and Review BLING Grant Report Commissioners discussed final edits to their grant report with the deadline of 12 noon on 1/4/18 to get all last minute changes to staff. 6. Staff Report -Reminder regarding accountability and being 100% invested in whatever the Committee works on next. Come to CEI on 1/24/18 with any ideas you want to work on and remember it should have a policy focus -some ideas for rest of the year: Prop N implementation, anything regarding immigration, Vote16 work, fee waiver for CA IDs, continued push of Student Advisory Council to push the Board of Education to implement the pre-registration resolution 7. Executive Committee Report They did not meet. 8. Civic Engagement and Immigration Committee Report to Full Commission (Discussion and Possible Action) Commissioner Mao will report back. 9. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 5:43pm. 5
