Preamble We, the members of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, in order to maintain and improve the quality of education with first year students, recognizing the importance of higher education, do hereby establish this Constitution for our chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Article I: Name A. The name of this organization shall be the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and shall be hereafter referred to as ALD. Article II: Purpose A. The purpose of the Society shall be to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year at UNCG. B. To promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society. Article III: Membership & Eligibility to Vote Section I: Membership Requirements A. Membership in the Society shall be based upon superior academic achievement by students during their first year at UNCG. (Only credit hours that count toward a bachelor s degree can be used to determine Alpha Lambda Delta eligibility. Advanced placement and other credits earned prior to high school graduation, however, are not counted in determining Alpha Lambda Delta eligibility. B. The members of ALD shall be those persons who have achieved a 3.5 or higher Grade Point Average (on a 4.0-point scale), or the equivalent. C. There shall be no discrimination on account of age, race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, gender identity and expression, disability, socioeconomic status, or creed. D. All duly initiated members shall be eligible to vote in ALD elections and referendums. Section II: Transfer Students A. Transfer students who attained eligibility for membership in an institution in which there is a chapter of this Society may be initiated during their first year of residence upon certification by their previous institutions. B. Freshman transfer students from institutions that do not have an Alpha Lambda Delta chapter, to be eligible for membership must have the required Alpha Lambda Delta grade point average on the courses taken during the first full curricular period at UNCG. Article IV: Executive Board Section I: Composition A. The executive powers of Alpha Lambda Delta shall be vested in the ALD President; who shall have the assistance of the ALD Executive Board, including the: Vice President, Secretary of Academic Affairs, Secretary of Community Affairs, Public Relations Chair, and the Special Events Chair. B. The Executive Board shall meet bi-weekly (or on dates determined by the President) to discuss the business of ALD. Qualifications of the Executive Board A. In order to be on the executive board, a candidate must meet the following criteria: a. Must be enrolled for no less than twelve (12) undergraduate or six (6) graduate hours at UNCG per semester while in office. b. Must be in good conduct standing as determined by the University. c. Each Officer shall serve until resignation, removal from office, or installation of the incoming Officers. d. Each Officer is required to attend all Executive and General Body meetings. If an officer acquires two (2) unexcused absences in a semester, he or she shall receive a warning via email. If an officer acquires more than two (2) unexcused absences in a semester, they may be subject to removal from their position at the discretion of the President and Chapter Advisor. e. Each Officer is required to attend and or participate in at least two (2) community service events each semester. f. Each Officer is required to hold at minimum one (1) regularly scheduled office hour in the ALD office each week during the fall and spring semesters when school is in session. Powers and Duties of the President A. Must be able to serve for a full academic year. B. Call and preside over meetings of the ALD General Body and the Executive Board. C. Represents ALD in a positive manner. D. Responsible for maintaining the UNCG affiliation requirements which includes attending meetings, filling out the re-affiliation packet, and maintaining the ALD office space. E. Responsible for granting after-hours access to Executive Board members. F. Responsible for sending a representative to the ALD National Leadership Workshop. G. Votes only in the event of a tie or an impeachment hearing. H. Tally votes during balloted elections with the advisor. I. Prepare agendas for meetings. J. Meet with the advisor(s) on a regular basis. K. The President shall hold an Officer Orientation Meeting for Executive Board members prior to the first General Body meeting of the Fall semester. L. The President shall see that the newly appointed Officers are properly trained. M. Plans for the next school year by submitting reservation requests to chapter advisor in April. Powers and Duties of the Vice President A. Must be able to serve for a full academic year. B. Assume the duties of the President in his/her absence. C. Assists the President in preparing agendas for meetings. D. Responsible for managing and updating the points in a timely fashion, this includes uploading points to Blackboard/Spreadsheet. E. Responsible for keeping track of those who are eligible for graduation/honor cords. F. Assists the President with on-campus re-affiliation requirements. H. Responsible for planning socials for the Executive Board and General Body. Responsible for sending out weekly reminders to members about upcoming events. I. Serve in any other capacity as deemed necessary by the President. UNCG Alpha Lambda Delta 3

Powers and Duties of the Secretary of Academic Affairs A. Responsible for attending all meetings and taking minutes of each meeting. B. Sends out meeting minutes within 48 hours of each meeting. C. Responsible for scheduling and hosting ALD study nights (2 per month) and any other academicrelated activities. D. Responsible for inviting guest speakers to General Body meetings. E. Serve in any other capacity as deemed necessary by the President. Powers and Duties of the Secretary of Community Affairs A. Responsible for planning at least one community service event per month. B. Responsible for coordinating at least two (2) off-campus community service events per semester. C. Decides how many points should be allotted for participation in each event. D. Coordinates with the advisor for any events requiring donations to be dropped off in the NS & SFP office. E. Responsible for planning all ALD fundraising events with help from the Executive Board. F. Responsible for picking up any items dropped off in the ALD cubicle within 48 hours of the due date. G. Serve in any other capacity as deemed necessary by the President. Powers and Duties of the Public Relations Chair A. Responsible for taking photos at meetings and events. B. Responsible for creating and updating a scrapbook for the chapter and submitting it to ALD Nationals each spring. C. Prepares and maintains the ALD website as well as other online media accounts. D. Responsible for the promotion and marketing campaigns of all ALD programs, initiatives and other items as determined in conjunction with the Executive Board. E. Responsible for planning and hosting ALD interest meetings each semester with help from the Executive Board. F. Communicates with various staff members and administrators from University Departments. G. Responsible for planning and running the ALD table at Fall Kick-Off. H. Serve in any other capacity as deemed necessary by the President. I. Notifies members of upcoming meetings (via email/canvas). Powers and Duties of the Special Events Chair A. Recruits teams to participate in the CANstruction event. B. Keeps contact with the Executive Officers of other campus organizations to facilitate organizational collaboration. C. Collects cans from members and transports the cans to Urban Ministries and Spartan Open Pantry no later than 48 hours after the event. D. Responsible for the promotion of the Relay for Life event and being the team captain. E. Encourages members to get involved, raises money and walks on the day of the event. F. Serve in any other capacity as deemed necessary by the President. UNCG Alpha Lambda Delta 4

Article V: ALD General Body Section I: Composition A. The General Body shall be composed of the Executive Board, and any duly initiated member of the UNCG Chapter of ALD. B. Meetings will be held once a month at a time and date confirmed by the president and advisor. Section II: Power and Duties of the General Body A. The General Body shall have the power to confirm or deny all Officer Appointments by the Advisor and President. B. Approval of appointments shall require a majority vote. C. Confirmation by the General Body shall be necessary before the appointee can take office. Section III: Voting A. The voting membership of the General Body shall be one vote per member, and one vote per voting member of the executive council as outlined previously in this document. Article VI: Line of Succession Section I: Office of the President If the President is removed, or resigns from office, the Vice President shall become the President. If the Vice President is unable to perform the duties of the President, the Secretary of Academic Affairs shall assume the Office of President until a special election can be held in accordance with Section 3 of this article Section II: Office of the Vice President If the Vice President is removed, or resigns from office, the Secretary of Academic Affairs shall assume the Office of Vice President until a special election can be held in accordance with Section 3 of this article. Section III: Special Elections The special election for the Office of President or Vice President must be initiated within ten (10) business days in the Fall or Spring semester, unless this ten (10) day period falls during Spring Elections. In this event, the person assuming the office shall remain until the newly elected Officer is sworn in. Article VII: ALD Advisor Section I: Purpose The purpose of the ALD Advisor is to serve as a role model, facilitate learning, assist in the efficient and effective administration of the organization, and provide guidance and resources for decision making, strategic planning, budgeting, program planning and all facets of the organization s operation. Section II: Powers and Duties of the ALD Advisor A. The ALD Advisor shall provide comprehensive advice and guidance to all members of ALD as well as students who have questions on the structure and functioning of ALD. B. Responsible for the reservations of all ALD rooms for events and or meetings. C. Responsible for placing catering orders for events. UNCG Alpha Lambda Delta 5

E. Prepares the annual financial report for ALD Nationals. Responsible for nominating a candidate for the Office of President with advice from the current president. F. Responsible for aiding the current President in his/her nomination for the Office of Vice President. G. Has no voting right during elections. Article VIII: Policy Book Section I. A. UNCG ALD shall establish a policy book, not in conflict with the UNCG ALD Constitution to contain additional operating procedures, awards, duties, statues, and limitations. B. The UNCG ALD policy book may be amended by a majority vote of the established voting membership. Article IX: Amendments Section I. A. Amendments may be proposed in writing by any voting member of ALD and must be submitted to the Chapter Advisor for review. B. An amendment shall become part of this Constitution when approved by two thirds of those members of the General Body voting by secret ballot, and approved by the Chapter Advisor. Article X: Effective Date This document shall take effect August 24, 2015. UNCG Alpha Lambda Delta 6

Office Hours A. ALD Executive Board Members shall meet with the advisor to determine office hours for Fall and Spring Semester. Office hours begin the second week of classes and end on the last day of classes. The President shall hold the executive board accountable for their office hours. Office & Supply Usage A. ALD maintains an office space for use by E-Board members of the organization while working on tasks and responsibilities that are necessary to fulfill the mission and vision of the organization. Elections & Special Elections A. Elections for the President, the Vice President, the Secretary of Academic Affairs, the Secretary of Community Affairs, the Public Relations Chair, and the Special Events Chair shall be held in the spring semester at a date to be determined by the President in coordination with the advisor. B. Newly elected officers shall be installed at the ALD Induction Ceremony. C. The President shall preside over the ALD Executive Board Elections except where the president is a candidate in which the Advisor will preside over the meeting for that particular election. D. Students running for an executive board position must win by a majority vote of the present voting membership (which is defined as 50% +1). E. All officers must follow the guidelines for election procedures a. All candidates will leave the room. b. The first candidate will present c. Presentation will be in alphabetical order of last names, and will last no more than ten minutes. d. A question and answer session of 5 minutes will follow each candidate. e. This process will repeat until all candidates have gone. f. There will be a discussion of all candidates. g. Candidate will not be present and the assembly shall be in a closed session. h. Voting will take place by secret ballot. i. Candidates will re-enter the room. j. The president and advisor will count the votes and the results will be announced. F. All members of the General Body with voting rights may vote in the ALD Executive Board Elections. In the event of a tie between two candidates, the current president has the right to then vote. G. If another Executive Board position becomes vacant during the year, a special election shall be held to fill the office in accordance with Article VI, Section III of the UNCG ALD Constitution. H. In the event that an officer graduates in December, an election for the Spring Semester must take place during the last chapter meeting in the Fall Semester. There can only be one officer per position, per semester. I. The Executive Board has the rights to waive any of the requirements due to extenuating circumstances. Resignation & Officer Dismissal A. A two-week notice of officer resignation is mandatory. B. If an officer resigns without the cause of extenuating circumstances, he or she will not be eligible to run for office until after three (3) years. UNCG Alpha Lambda Delta 8

Accounts & Media A. The Public Relations Chair shall maintain and be in control of all electronic accounts held by the UNCG Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta. This officer will inform the Executive Board on all updates and important occurrences. This officer will maintain a positive online presence for ALD and will create and deactivate accounts as needed to better serve the organization. Recognition A. Each year at the Awards Banquet, the current president and chapter advisor shall give out awards. The awards to be given will be determined by the Executive Board during the March meeting. In order to receive a free honor cord, a member must be a duly inducted member of ALD and must have earned 90pts (except in the case of early graduation) by the last day of classes during the semester in which they are graduating. B. If a member is graduating during the following term he or she should have the following amount of points to receive a free honor cord: Sophomore 1st semester: 15 points Sophomore 2nd semester: 30 points Junior 1st semester: 45 points Junior 2nd semester: 60 points Senior 1st semester: 75 points Senior 2nd semester: 90 points C. Members who don t meet the above requirements but still want an honor cord can purchase one for $40 (cash or check only). National Leadership Workshop A. During the officer training in August, it is the job of the president to determine a representative from the chapter to go to the National Leadership Workshop. B. Each chapter may send up to three representatives (one advisor and two students) to the Workshop. C. The President must make sure the UNCG Chapter is properly registered for the workshop.
