A preliminary report had been given to City Council at their recent work session. City Council has requested that Mary prioritize the recommendations. Ms. Blankenship also thanked the Council for the Telisman award that she was presented with at the Beaumont Public Forum. Council members are encouraged to attend. Public Relations Committee Gloria The Board of Supervisors Celebration of Aging events are still in the planning process. Each Supervisors office is discussing their theme and available dates. For more information on any event, contact Lynette Worrell, Office on Aging. The Committee will schedule a meeting when more details are available regarding the Celebration of Aging events. Intergovernmental Relations Erwin Fromm, Parliamentarian/Acting Chair No Report. Seniors and Adults with Disabilities Public Forum Subcommittee Gloria Beaumont Senior Forum was a great success, thanks to the dedication and hard work of Mary Blankenship. There were approximately 100 persons in attendance. A report should be ready by the end of March. David Willmon has been in contact with Robin Lowe to discuss the Hemet Senior Forum and will also follow up on the Riverside Senior Forum scheduled for 2008. The Hemet Senior Forum does not have a date set. Page 4 of 8

The Murrieta Senior Public Forum report is in process and the transcription will be completed this week. A draft report will be completed by March or April. Caregiver Standing Committee Erwin Fromm The committee developed a work plan, including objectives. Objectives include advocating on behalf of working caregivers at the local level, advocating to expand information and assistance and care management services for caregivers, advocating for increased funding to support program changes, and looking for trends and research in legislation that addresses caregiving as it relates to domestic partners. The next meeting will be March 5, 2007 to discuss the new objectives and prioritizing the work plan. The next Caregiver meeting will be held on March 5, 2007 and the focus will be finalizing the work plan for the committee. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) Betty Rogers Work has begun on the resource directory that will contain some of the questions raised at the GRG Forum in September. Plans for a GRG Desert Resource Fair to launch the new resource directory is underway. The fair is expected to take place in May. Housing/Transportation Standing Committee Erwin Fromm, Parliamentarian/Acting Chair The date for the Transportation forum will be changed to May 17, 2007 due to a conflict with RCTC Board meeting. Richard Smith has been working diligently behind the scenes to confirm panelists for the Forum. A request for sponsorship letters has been sent Board of Supervisors and will go out to various business/agencies for general sponsorship as soon as the May 17, 2007 date is confirmed. Intern Hay Lo is working on a paper that includes transportation data, barriers, and innovative programs to include in the Forum packets. The next transportation meeting will be March 15 at 2 pm at the Office on Aging. Intergenerational/Health Committee Phyllis McGraw The conceptual planning of the 2008 Intergenerational forum Healthy Aging as a Lifelong Process has begun. The committee will be inviting various speakers to upcoming meetings to learn what is currently happening in the areas of physical fitness, education, brain fitness and staying active in relation to generations across the lifespan. The Forum is expected to be geared to professionals in education, medical and other social service fields. The committee will also be looking at the options for addressing the recommendations from the June 2006 Technology report. Lu Molberg will be hosting a Technology Roundtable on April 26, 2007 at 11:30 and has invited CTEC to present on telehealth and other connectivity technology trends. The next Intergenerational meeting is March 16 at the Stroke Recovery Center in Palm Springs. Page 5 of 8

ByLaws Committee Doris Morgan-Richards The ByLaws Committee met on January 12, 2007 and reviewed the current ByLaws. Recommended amendments will be submitted at the March meeting for Council for discussion and then submitted to County Council and the Board of Supervisors for approval. Membership Committee Report Carol Tong Gloria and Carol Tong met with new members for a general orientation to the Advisory Council. Carol Tong thanked the membership committee members for all of their work with the application and interview question changes and for participating in the new member interviews. Nominating Committee Report Erwin Fromm The Committee will meet after the march Advisory Council meeting. Community Liaison Updates California Senior Legislators (CSL) CSL Members There was a JRC conference call to review the Bylaws. In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Advisory Council No report Triple A Council of California (TACC) Vee Maiden No Report Riverside County Foundation on Aging Gloria Donation for $100 was given to the Foundation from Doris Morgan-Richards. The Foundation will be meeting to discuss the mission and vision, to develop the Board, and to strategize for funds development. 211 Program Beverly Greer A letter regarding the requests for donations was included in the packet. Older Adults System of Care Gloria There will be a conference in San Diego in May. There continues to be an attempt to squeeze out Older Adults. The Council requested an invitation be extended to Barbara Mitchell to address the issue at a future Council meeting. Ed Walsh, staff, has agreed to follow up on this request. Director s Report Lu Molberg, Director The annual Inspiration Awards will be held on April 13, 2007. Doris Morgan- Richards has been nominated for an award from Supervisor Wilson. If Council members would like to attend, please contact Lynette Worrell by the end of March. The County Annual report will be submitted to Ray Smith and will then be available on the website. The report from the Older Driver Roundtable has been included in the packet. Several ideas and strategies were recommended at this roundtable. Michele Haddock has resigned from the agency effective the end of February. Ed Walsh will be acting Deputy Director until the position has been filled. The agency customer satisfaction report has been submitted. The Office on Aging does a thorough survey and the mangers use the results to effect changes. Supervisor Ashley office will be recommending to the City of Calimesa that they become a commodity site. Supervisor Ashley also wants to supplement food delivery to seniors in his district, i.e. Thanksgiving and Christmas. Supervisor Ashley is interested in expanding the Commodity Food Supplement Program (CFSP) in Riverside County. Currently Orange County is delivering about 1000 boxes to our county and would like to expand to 5000 boxes. CFSP program certification for Riverside County may be difficult to obtain due to budget cuts at the Federal level. Family Service Association recently hosted a fund raiser at Weinerschnitzel to feed seniors. Correspondence to CDA, AOA, and Assembly Member Patty Berg regarding the agency interest in expanding its Resource Center on Aging as part of the national ADRC initiatives. The Death Certificate Fee proposal is moving forward. Robin Hastings with Supervisor Ashley s office continues to be very involved in this. The Congress of California Seniors has set Congregate and Home Delivered Meals, Health Care, Affordable Housing, Prescription Drug Coverage and Medi-Medi equity as their priorities. Strategic Plan on Aging Update Ed Walsh A public hearing regarding the annual Strategic Plan on Aging amendments was held. The Strategic Plan on Aging will be submitted to the Board of Supervisors in April and CDA in May.
