THE EUROPEAN LEAGUE OF GENEVA POB 36 CH-1211 GENEVA 20 Tel. 0041 22 733 04 73 Geneva, 18 May 2011. The European League is a non-profit making private organization with the purpose of promoting the ideals of the EU. It is led by an international Committee of men of science and of letters and is stationed in Geneva The entanglement of the Turkish candidature for adherence to the EU Honorable members of the European Parliament The Prime Minister of Turkey, Mr Tagip Erdogan at repeated occasions expressed his impatience for the fact that the EU is hesitant to take a decision for Turkey's full membership in the European Union. Impatience must better be due to the fact not that the EU is hesitant in taking a final decision but in real terms, it is hesitant to clarify to the Turkish government the reasons why such decision must and will, in fact, never be taken. Mr Olli Ren, in a letter addressed to our ELG in October 2005 (JCF/vdD82005)517). signed by Jean-Christophe Filori, stated : "One thing is clear: if Turkey is in a position to fulfil all our conditions and respects and implements all EU values, standards and policies, it will be a different country than today. The EU and its citizens need Turkey as a stable, democratic, prosperous and reliable partner. The perspective of EU membership is the best engine for the continuation of reforms in this key country for peace, democracy and prosperity in Europe. It is in our core interest to keep it alive". Almost six years have elapsed from the date of that letter and the question arises: is Turkey in a position to fulfil those conditions and expectations? We are deeply concerned that Turkey has repeatedly shown not only that it is not, but it has expressly said and showed that it has absolutely no intention to do so. Mr Erdogan has retorted in clear terms to Mr Chirac, then President of France, "if you mean assimilation, you will never have it from us". Repeated evidence has made it clear that the attitude, acts and intentions of Turkey are completely incompetent with the aims expressed in the above letter. We beg therefore the honorable members of the European Parliament to take into consideration the following facts. 1o. Turkey's Foreign Minister, Mr Ahmet Davutoglu, in a book entitled "Strategic Depth", has expressly recorded the intentions of Turkey in matters concerning international policies. He writes at the outset of his long argumentation: "Turkey's ideals are quite clear. We shall normalize our history and our geography. The planet (sic) needs a new paradigm in the context of the New Order of Things". The international position of Turkey, as expressed in that book, is full of Turkey s intentions to force a radical revision of the existing treaties in so resolute a manner that it endangers the maintenance of peace in a wide region allegedly called by the author "Turkey's Lebensraum". The ambitions on "New Order" and on "Lebensraum", are reminiscent, even as vocabulary, of similar ambitions expressed in the

thirties of the 20th century which led to a destructive War ended in 1945 with the score of 60 million innocent victims. Mr Davutoglu's "Lebensraum", according to his own "history and geography" extends (a) from the Adriatic Sea through the Balkans and the Aegean Sea to the Middle East and the Caucasus, (b) the sea district from the Black Sea and the Adriatic, to Eastern Mediterranean, Red Sea, Persian Gulf, Kaspian Sea and (c) Europe, Northern Africa and South Asia (!!). The Map issued by Turkey and taught in all Turkish Schools, includes Cyprus, Eastern Aegean Sea and the Greek Islands including Rhodes and the rest of Dodecanese plus the Greek territories of Thrace and Eastern Macedonia, up to Armenia, part of Georgia and Northern Iraq!! It is characteristic that Mr Davutoglu says clearly that his requirement of "zero problems with the neighbours" has no other meaning but that the status of "zero problems" may indeed be established only if and when the neighbours have fully accepted and complied with the very ambitions of Mr Davutoglu s modern version of "Mein Kampf", i.e New Order of Things and Lebensraum! He further states clearly that if peace- loving Turkey may ever engage in war it will be "in order to conquer the Greek islands in the Aegean"! It is evident, as confirmed by past and recent history, that the fate waiting the exclusively Greek population of the claimed territories will be similar to the fate of the Greek population of Imbros, Tenedos and Istambul, i.e. complete extermination. It is reminded that the Treaty of Lausanne which regulated the exchange of populations in 1923 made a provision that 150,000 Greeks remain in Turkish territory and 150,000 Turks and other Muslims remain in the Greek Western Thrace. Of these, in Turkish territory remain today only about 2,000 (the rest forcibly expelled by pogroms, including looting of properties, rapes etc) whereas the 150,000 Turks in Greek territory (Western Thrace) not only exceed the initial number but they also claim... "independence" and self-government! In reading the Turkish Foreign Minister s book one is astounded that such claims are officially propounded by the Foreign Minister of a country seeking admission to the European community and being expected to respect the EU values, standards and policies as the Commission s letter of October 2005 was hopeful for! But this is not all! 2o. The same claims of "independence" and self-government are now flourishing in the German district of Westphalia (!). Please read the following: << The organisation of young Muslim intellectuals "Generation Zukunft e.v." calls on all Turks in Germany: We want autonomy for the Turks in Germany with the objective of independent government. We want place signs in Germany to be in Turkish. In supermarkets the information must be written in Turkish script... We want North-Rhine Westphalia to be the first federal state to become an autonomous Turkish republic. At a later stage, Berlin should also become an autonomous Turkish territory and the federal government should move to Bonn.

From a demographic perspective, Turks represent a considerable part of the new generation of the German population. Seen in this way, we are the future of Germany... The German government should slowly start to think deeply about who is sitting in its lap...>> (Homepage of Generation Zukunft e.v., cited in "Kurier der Christlichen Mitte" (Courier of the Christian Centre), monthly periodical for religion and politics, March 2011 - No. 3). Further, the coordination committee of the Turkish association wrote the following to the German organisation Christliche Mitte (Christian Centre), whose periodical brought to light the following: <<Don't forget. As Germany lay in rubble and ashes, the foreigners came to build the country back up. The foreigners (Turks) brought the Germans prosperity. Without the foreigners, Germans would still be standing in their rubble today. From that follows the logical conclusion: the land belongs to those who built it. Foreigners are nationals. We want: to vote here, to work here, to participate in decisions here. Therefore: the next federal chancellor and ministers must be Turkish!!! The cross must disappear! Islam is the strongest force; Islam will prevail>>. The European League of Geneva s considered opinion is that it will be foolish to take lightly such as the above declarations and not have a foresight of what will certainly happen if Turkey with a population of 70 million and a strong birth rate ever becomes a full member of the EU. We therefore strongly recommend that each member of the European Parliament reads carefully Mr Davudoglu s Book Strategic Depth which is in circulation in English translation. But the above, again, is not all that concerns the role that Turkey is likely to play if it ever becomes a full-fledged member of the European Union. 3o. The Turkish representative in the EU, Mr Egemen Bagis, in his letter published in the International Herald Tribune (29.8.2005) writes as follows: in Ankara we struggle to find the correct terminology to depict the recent chatter of petit European politicians. This is followed in the same letter by the preposterous (if not ludicrous) assertion Europe is too important to be left to the Europeans (sic!!!). Of same nature is his recent lapsus linguae that the shutoff of the Turkish negotiations with the EU will be the incubus of Greek Cypriots or, further, his ominous threat of 1,5 billion closely eyeing Muslims!! The cumulative effect of Mr Davutoglu s imperial ambitions and of Mr Bagis vain attempts of intimidation addressed to the EU and its member states shows in a most clear manner what Europe may expect in case that Turkey becomes a full member of the European Union. The Turkish population is now about 70 million with a birth rate that by far exceeds the average rate of European countries. Honorable members of the European Parliament.

Turkey's admission in our European Community and civilisation means the conquest of Europe by a nation nurtured in the myth of Mr Davutoglu's imperial ambitions. We, the EUROPEAN LEAGUE OF GENEVA, suggest that all Parliament members read the Turkish History and take into consideration that the people of Kurdish decent are struggling for their independence for more than 25 years without any help from Europe, as if the struggle for freedom and democracy of a Nation of more than 25 million members being slaughtered in its fight for freedom is a subject that does not concern the acquis communautaires of <<EU values, standards and policies>> or, as it is also mentioned in the Commission s letter, may be believed that Turkey will at a...later date, <<be a different country than today>>, for a <<EU whose citizens need(?) Turkey as a stable, democratic, prosperous and reliable partner>>! And, alas again, that is not all! Please read further. Turkey, in its imperial fever, invaded the Island of Cyprus because, as Mr Davidoglu makes clear in his book, <<even if there were no Greek inhabitants by an 82% majority in the Island, Cyprus would still interest Turkey as part of its Lebensraum>>(!). Nowhere, in Mr Davutoglu s book, even the slightest mention is made on the human rights of foreign countries populations if they inhabit territories that the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs considers as being of vital interest for Turkey s Lebensraum! As a consequence, Turkey has ignored five resolutions of the UNO requesting the evacuation of the conquered ground and, during the invasion, the Turkish army killed mercilessly some 1500 civilians, forcibly deported 250,000 of the local inhabitants with acts of violence, looting and raping, confiscated their properties and is selling the loot to British tourists. In this respect, we beg the honorable Deputies of the European Parliament to read herebelow the decision of the Nuremberg Court of Justice according to which the Leaders, political and military, of Germany were executed by hanging at the end of WWII: Nuremberg Court Decision Article 6 (a) Crimes against peace: namely, planning, preparation, initiation or waging of war of aggression... (b) War Crimes: namely violation of the laws of the customs of war including but not limited to, murder, ill-treatment or deportation to slave labor or for any other purpose of civilian population of or in occupied territory, murder or ill-treatment of prisoners of war, killing of hostages, plunder of public or private property, wanton destruction of cities, towns or villages or devastation not justified by military necessity. (c) Crimes against Humanity: namely, murder, extermination, deportation, and other inhumane acts committed against any civilian population, before or during the war or persecutions on political, racial or religious grounds in execution of or in connection with any crime whether or not in violation of domestic law of the country where perpetrated. Leaders, organizers, instigators and accomplices participating in the formulation or execution of a Common Plan or Conspiracy to commit any of the foregoing crimes are responsible for all acts performed by any persons in execution of such plan.

Article 7: The official position of defendants, whether as Heads of State or responsible officials in Government departments, shall not be considered as freeing them from responsibility or mitigating punishment. Article 8. The fact that the defendant acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior shall not free him from responsibility... Honorable members of the European Parliament, After this series of crimes against humanity, against respect to the rights and liberties of the human individual, against the safeguard of age-long monuments of culture and against the established civilized standards of the acquis communautaire, THE STEERING COMMITTEE OF THE EUROPEAN LEAGUE OF GENEVA MAKES AN APPEAL to the Deputies of Parliament, the European Community leaders and decision-makers as well as to European Media to the effect that the decades-long negotiations for admission of Turkey in the European Community come to an end and that Turkey and its leaders are informed, without any tint of hypocrisy, that admission as full-fledged member is against the post-wwii principles of the EU s acquis communautaire. Moreover, it is considered as the duty of the European Commission to initiate an investigation on all the acts described as crimes of war and against humanity by the Nuremberg Court of Justice during the Turkish invasion in Cyprus, a member State of the EU. Failure to do so will have a heavy historical effect on the credibility and good faith of the EU. An additional factor must be taken in consideration: that the aggressiveness, disrespect of the UNO resolutions, refusal to recognize a member State (Cyprus), systematic violation of the human rights of the Kurdish, Armenian, Greek populations, the maintenance of a threat of casus belli if Greece extends its territorial waters in accordance with International Law respected by all countries in the World, coupled with the tendency of discrimination, independence, lack of assimilation shown by the Turkish communities inhabiting European countries (Germany, Greece, Serbia etc) are all attitudes that are not in compliance with the standards of European Communities present status of culture and ethics. The burden of responsibility of the European Commission members in Brussels is obvious. Last but not least, we attach a letter the ELG sent to the Turkish Prime Minister to which no reply has been (or expected to be) received. For the European League of Geneva The President Dr Nicolas Kaloy
