It s All at Your Library! www.pplc.us September 2018 Program Guide PPLC A Monthly Publication of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative Life-changing Career Online HIGH SCHOOL is back in 2018-2019 A high school diploma is the foundation for career advancement, jobs, and post-secondary education. For many Pinellas County residents, the absence of a high school diploma can mean a lack of such opportunities. Through Career Online High School, Pinellas County residents, age 19 and over can earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate online. Five PPLC member libraries (Clearwater, Largo, Safety Harbor, St. Petersburg, and Tarpon Springs) are participating in the Career Online High School (COHS) program. The program offers a limited number of scholarships to motivated adult learners. For more information, please contact one of the participating libraries. The program is free and open to residents of Pinellas County with a PPLC Library Card in good standing. The Career Online High School project is brought to you by the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services. Notice fr om our Community Partners: AARP FOUNDATION TAX-AIDE SEARCHING FOR VOLUNTEERS Every year, AARP Foundation Tax- Aide offers free tax filing to thousands of taxpayers through partnerships with Pinellas County libraries. In order to provide this valuable service, they need dedicated volunteers! With the help of neighbors like you, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax filing help to those who need it most. You ve got just what it takes to help your neighbors in need. Many older, lowincome taxpayers miss out on credits and deductions they ve earned because they can t afford to pay for professional tax preparation. You can make a big difference in someone else s life. AARP will show you how. According to the Pinellas AARP volunteer tax preparer Jim Woods We re looking for compassionate and friendly individuals to join our team of local volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Our volunteers receive training and continued support in a welcoming environment. And as our current volunteers tell us, you ll not only learn new skills but also get that great feeling from helping someone else. Apply at aarpfoundation.org/ taxaide or call 1-888-AARP-Now (1-888-227-7669). CHIHULY COLLECTION HOT SHOP CLOSING Patrons checking out the Chihuly Collection museum passes, will be unable to visit the Hot Shop while it is closed from 9/17/18 to 9/30/18. Patrons will still be able to visit the Chihuly Collection as normal.
