City Council Regular Meeting July 24, 2012 The City Council of the, Florida met in regular session on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in the Council Chamber of City Hall, 555 South Washington Avenue, Titusville, Florida. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Those present were Mayor Jim Tulley, Vice-Mayor Walt Johnson and Members Kathleen Burson, Martha Long, and Rita Pritchett. Also present were City Manager Mark Ryan, City Attorney Richard Broome, and City Clerk Wanda Wells. Assistant City Clerk Jolynn Donhoff completed the minutes. Mayor Tulley requested a moment of silence and then led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Special Recognitions and Presentations: Employee of the Month City Manager Ryan recognized Stacey Woodward of the Police Department as the City's Employee of the Month for June 2012. He read from her nomination and presented her with a plaque and gift. Greater Titusville Renaissance Beautification Awards Member Burson, Chairman of the Corridor Property Beautification Subcommittee, introduced the item. The corridor beautification project included the routes along Garden Street, U.S. Highway 1, and Highway 50/Cheney Highway. Recipients of the beautification award received a sign of recognition, a certificate at their place of business, a framed award, and a gift. Member Burson presented two awards. The first was presented to a representative of the Bruster s Ice Cream on Highway 50 for their efforts to continually maintain a beautiful appearance at their business. The representative advised that the business was recently sold to new owners that would continue to operate and care for the ice cream shop. Member Burson presented the second award to Mr. Bob Kirk in recognition for the thousands of beautiful sunflowers that he grew on his property located on South Highway U.S.1. Mr. Kirk commented that approximately 400,000 seeds were originally planted and that citizens were welcome to visit the site and obtain seeds for themselves.
Rocket Crafter's Announcement and the Recruitment of the Client to Titusville - City Manager Ryan with Mayor Tulley individually recognized and presented awards to the employees, volunteers, and agency representatives for their outstanding service during the recent Rocket Crafter's Announcement Ceremony and the efforts to recruit the new business to Titusville. Greg Weiner of the Office of the Economic Development Commission of Florida s Space Coast (EDC) was one of the individuals that received an award. Mr. Weiner congratulated several persons involved with the economic development project including some individuals that were not at the meeting. City Manager Ryan honored Economic Development Director Laura Canady with the Stepping Up to the Plate Award.
Titusville Fire and Emergency Services Chief Mayor Tulley read from a prepared statement that summarized the professional conduct required of personnel of the Fire Department. He then administered the oath of office and swearing in to the newly appointed Fire and Emergency Services Chief Michael R. Woodward. Additionally, Mayor Tulley presented Fire and Emergency Services Chief Woodward with a new badge that was pinned onto his uniform by Police Department employee and spouse, Stacey Woodward. The Chief s family, several employees, and two former Fire and Emergency Services Chiefs were at the meeting to witness the swearing in ceremony. The former Chiefs were Tom Harmer and Bob Cherry.
