Information has been collected from various sources, namely directories, newsletters, Internet, proforma filled in by organizations, telephonic verification, letter heads, etc. However, NIPCCD does not take any responsibility for any error that may in advertently have crept in. Introduction Autonomous organizations play a very important role in society. Social development has ranked high on the priority list of Government programmes since Independence, and autonomous organizations have been important partners in revealing the social problems that exist at the community level. Being in close proximity to the community, autonomous institutes have done pioneering work in many areas, rendered services, high lighted many social problems, undertaken advocacy, and evaluated the functioning of many Government programmes for the under privileged. A Project was undertaken by Documentation Centre for Women and Child (DCWC), NIPCCD to bring out Directories of Organizations building the capacity of organizations by providing financial support and undertaking research. Autonomous organizations provide support to organizations working for child welfare; social welfare; women welfare; children at risk, including street children and child labour; social defence, including trafficking; human development and education; scheduled castes/ scheduled tribes and rural women and children. This Directory gives detailed information about the state branches of Central Social Welfare Board and their activities, including postal address, telephone, fax, website, email address, and key words indicating their areas of work and projects. For the convenience of users, organizations in the Directory have been arranged alphabetically statewise. It has been possible to bring out this document due to the extensive cooperation extended by organizations that have shared the relevant information with us. Without their support it would not have been possible to bring out this compilation. It is hoped that this document would be useful to all stakeholders working for the empowerment of vulnerable sections of society, including women and children.
