President's Report 2010 AGM Focus on Communication: New website, E-newsletter, Explore social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc) Focus on Events: Educational Series & Social Functions

President's Report Staff! December 2, 2010 the Board of Directors hired an Executive Director David Keefe excepted the position (contract) assist with managing the organization s administrative affairs establish working relationships and trust within and across all sectors of the Nova Scotia geomatics community promote the interest of the membership and geomatics in the region Assist / coordinate geomatics events on behalf of the Association

President's Report More Communication / Transparency Minutes from the past 12 months are on the gans.ca website Including the 2010 GANS AGM This Board is very active volunteer board that meets once every month 1 st Thursday of every monthly from 9 a.m. 12 p.m. You can look for the minutes to be posted following the subsequent meeting

President's Report Governance & Committees 2010/ 2011 saw the development, expansion of GANS governance through committees: Communication s Committee (Chair: Paul Boudreau) Business Sector Committee (Chair: Bill Jones) Education Committee (Chair: James Boxall) Membership Committee (Registrar) All Committee s report to the Board All have their own Terms of Reference defined Role for the Executive Director ensuring coordination across governance model Looking for Volunteers!!

President's Report Engaging Members on Geomatics Policy We heard that members need to be engaged more, re: issues that are important to them. The Board responded with the following Motion at the February meeting: The Geomatics Association of Nova Scotia recognizes that the Association is the only body in the province that can independently reflect upon and have impact on geomatics policies of or relating to Nova Scotia. Followed up by a process for allowing members to submit issues & ideas to the board that can be shared with their peers Follow up with any Board member for more info

Treasurer's Report The Board would like to take this opportunity to recognize and sincerely thank Fred Hutchinson who stepped down as Treasurer of GANS in 2010. Fred has held this office for over 8 years and has invested a lot of his personal time to ensure the financial records of GANS were maintained in a professional manner. The financial records for fiscal 2010 have been reviewed and approved by Lynn Parks, CMA. 2010 Assets for the Geomatics Association of Nova Scotia are $25,276.85 consisting of cash held in the TD Bank. This is down $2,640.25 from the previous year.

Treasurer's Report (cont d) 2010 Revenue was $6,464.35 from mainly membership dues and trailing revenue from Geomatics Atlantic held the previous year. 2010 Expenses were $9,975.98 consisting mainly of the following: Event Expenses of $3,752.31 (Xmas social, Spring Into Geomatics sponsorship, Industry Meeting) Scholarships and & Grants disbursed of $1,400.00 Training expenses from Geomatics Atlantic of $2,208.82 Administration fees of $2,102.36 2010 Net Income is a negative $3,511.63 given $6,464.35 in revenue and $9,975.98 in expenses. Financial statements are available to any GANS member upon request and will be available on the GANS website.

Education Committee Report The Board has established terms of reference Potential members have stepped forward An email list for the committee has been created Outreach efforts to other educational activities associated with our sector have begun

Education Committee Report Development of training opportunities that will include and cross the normal GIS boundaries workshops and special sessions at geomatics Atlantic, along with members being able to go out to schools and the public to show case the sector. More efforts will be devoted to geography awareness week in November to address a serious decline in geography and geomatics in schools (which will have an impact on our sector). Review of educational activities from primary to post secondary graduation, and beyond to professional development.

Business Sector Committee Report Established the committee website page Purpose: Increase the capability and capacity of the geomatics private sector in Nova Scotia (address concerns, develop strategy for support, promote awareness of companies, promote products and services) Current interim chair -looking for a chair and active members (currently have Eric Melanson, Wayne Renaud, Bill Jones) Have developed a procedure to address submissions from the GANS Membership Currently have a submission from membership that we have started to address
