Mr. Laurella also thanked his wife, and stated that she made it possible for him to be on the Committee attending meetings, and performing other Township duties for over twenty two (22) years. Mr. Laurella stated that in one way he is happy 2011 is over, because in 2011 the Township had to raise its taxes, it didn t go over well with the Committee but the Township did what it had to do, because of budget cuts and less money coming in from the County Landfill. Mr. Laurella indicated that in 2011 there was a lot of flooding in the Township due to the large amounts of rain, and the Township did the best it could regarding the flooding problems. Also 2011 brought the turning off of some street lights because of the high electric bills. Mr. Laurella stated that on the bright side, 2011 had the Deerfield Township Construction office busy because of the commercial properties being constructed in the Township, and also home repairs that needed permits. Mr. Laurella stated that in 2012 the Committee will look into grants that are available for the Township, including road repaving, pagers for the Fire Company, and an energy grant to replace the light fixtures in the Municipal Building to make them more energy efficient. Mr. Laurella stated that at the end of the month, the Township would be losing Judge Casarow, who has been with the Township since 1976, the courts are now being consolidated to save the Municipalities money. Mr. Laurella indicated that in 2011 three Township employees retired, and have been replaced, Mr. Laurella wished the new employees the best and to the retired employees he stated to enjoy retirement. Mr. Laurella stated that this is the first time since 1979 that the Committee has been an all male Committee, so they better watch what they do, because the ladies will be watching them. Mr. Laurella thanked all the Staff working for Deerfield Township for all the work they have been doing. In closing, Mr. Laurella asked the people of Deerfield Township, if there is a problem, please give the Committee a call or come to a meeting to express their concerns, hopefully 2012 will start looking up for every one through out the United States.
