Meeting regarding installation of intelligent traffic signal lights in Jammu A review meeting regarding installation of intelligent traffic signal lights in Jammu approved under AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) for testing and commissioning of 64 Nos. (including 34 new and 30 existing ) was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Sh. M. Raju (IAS). During the course of the meeting, the Commissioner, JMC directed the firm to ensure proper testing and commissioning of such 35 lights (15 New and 20 existing) well before the 15th October, 2017 so that Traffic Police can test the operation of ATCS Control efficiently in the phase manner. He further showed his concern for not taking up the installation of traffic lights upto the required level due to slow pace of work by the firm resulting into delay for completing the project in a time bound manner. He added that it is one of the prestigious project, as it will help to regulate the traffic of Jammu City in large manner, any delay in executing the same shall not be ignored. The Commissioner, JMC further directed the concerned agencies viz. Traffic, PWD, RTO to provide necessary support to the firm M/s. DIMTS so that project is completed in time bound manner especially the PWD Deptt. for permitting the concerned agencies for road cutting across rotaries as and when required by them so that there is no hindrance in the execution of the work. He directed the firm M/s. DIMTS to submit a work programme giving therein timeline for each day progress to be achieved upto 15th October, 2017 to complete the installation work (testing & commissioning in all respects) for 15 new junction and upgradation of existing 20 locations alongwith schedule for the junctions where road cutting is required. Meeting regarding RTI An interactive session was held by the Chief Information Commissioner, Sh. Khursheed Ahmed Ganai with the officers of Jammu Municipal Corporation in the Conference Hall of JMC in which all the Public Information Officers and Officers associated with the disposal of RTI applications participated in the session. While acknowledging the diverse nature of public functions are being performed by JMC and that large number of RTI applications are being received in JMC, he appreciated the Commissioner, JMC for appointing PIOs for different wings/sections of JMC which shall result in speedy and effective disposal of RTI applications. Commissioner, J&K also handed over the new print of The Chief Information Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information Act, 2009 alongwith J&K Right to Information Rules, 2012 to Mr. M. Raju (IAS), Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation. He advised the PIOs to have an understanding of the transparency act and ensure that the information under the Act is disseminated in a hassle free manner. After assessing detailed status of RTI Appeals, the Chief Information Commissioner advised the Jammu Municipal Corporation to create a robust system for receipt and disposal of RTI applications and also erect a bill board at the main entrance giving among other type of information the names of Public Information Officers and First Appellate Authority. Meeting Regarding Smart City The first meeting of Board of Directors of Jammu Smart City Limited was held under the Chairmanship of Sh. Hirdesh Kumar (IAS), Commissioner/Secretary to Govt., Housing & Urban Development Department in the Conference Hall of Jammu Municipal Corporation. Jammu Smart City Limited is a Company limited by shares, registered under Companies Act, 2013 for implementation of Jammu Smart City project. Jammu Smart City project stands approved by Govt. of India with total project cost of around Rs. 3600 crores which involves various smart interventions in Jammu City. The Board also unanimously adopted Memorandum of Association & Articles of Association of the Company and stressed upon for taking immediate steps for speedy implementation of the Jammu Smart City Project. Anti encroachment drive by Jammu Municipal Corporation Jammu Municipal Corporation in coordination with District Police toady on 25.09.2017 conducted its drive against encroachers and illegal rehries/pharies on the instructions of Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation Mr. M. Raju (IAS) Jammu Municipal Corporation. The drive was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (Rev.) JMC Mrs. Vinakshi Koul (KAS). Revenue Officers, field staff of JMC and Police force also accompanied the drive. The drive was conducted in the areas viz Jewel, Canal Head, Akhnoor Road, Bhagwati Nagar and Paloura. During the drive the team of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith police removed encroachments and cleared the footpaths and pavements. The team also shifted rehriwala s to identified/notified rehri zones i.e. Chander bagha (community hall) and ITI Akhnoor road for ensuring that the road is made available in order to have free movement of the traffic as well as public in general. The team seized 34 illegal rehries plying without licence from these areas and directed the shopkeepers to keep their goods within their premises to avoid penal action against them and vendors to ply their rehries only in the rehri zones established by Jammu Municipal Corporation and only after obtaining proper rehri licence from Jammu Municipal Corporation. Cleanliness Drive under Swachhta Hi Sewa Theme Conducted by Jammu Municipal Corporation In view of Govt. Instructions to celebrate 3rdanniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission with the theme Swachhata Hi Sewa. Today on 23/09/2017 Jammu Municipal Corporation in collaboration with empanelled NGO launched cleanliness / awareness drive in Govt. High School City Chowk & Govt. Girls High School Toph Sherkhanian. During the cleanliness drives at Govt. Girl High School Toph Sherkhanian & Govt. High School City Chowk the representatives of NGO stressed the need of Swachhata and aware the students to maintain personal hygienic as well as cleanliness in their school and surroundings. They also apprised the drawbacks of open defecation and appealed the gathering to avail the benefits of various schemes launched by Govt. of India such as construction of Individual House Holds Latrines etc. The NGO and JMC officers administered the swachhata oath in both the schools. Dustbins for collection of garabge were also distributed in both the schools. Prithi Pal Singh Sanitation Officer JMC, Asstt. Prof. Shapia Shameem, Mr. Sunny Kumar, Mr. B.J. Raina, Mr. Retish Suri, staff and children were present during the programme. Five teams from Govt. College for Education Jammu, Govt. PG College for Women Gandhinagar Jammu, GGM Science College Jammu, MAM College Jammu, SPMR College of Commerce Jammu participated in the competition. Mr. Deepu Raina was the quiz master assisted by Abhinitika Verma and Suchitra Sharma whereas the stage was conducted by Mr. Parvinder Singh Programme Manager, NDF. First prize was bagged by SPMR College of Commerce Jammu comprised of Saurabh Mehta, Kashish Gupta, Sukriti Jain, Gurleen Kour, Sannat Gupta. Second prize was bagged by Govt. College of Education comprised of Aditi Singh, Sonali Manhas, Preeti Jamwal, Palak Gupta, Gagandeep Singh, third prize was bagged by Govt. PG College for Women Gandhinagar Jammu comprise of Himani Sharma, Sonia Sharma, Priya Devi, Urmila Kumari, Aakriti Sharma. Consolation prizes were won by GGM Science College comprised of Akash Kohli, Prateek Sharma, Rajnish Choudhary, Sangam Choudhary, Manjul Jagotra and MAM College Jammu comprised of Sanchit Raina, Siddhant, Rakshit Sharma, Nitish Sharma and Ashfaq Wani. Mr. Rajiv Khajuria Founder Emeritus NDF while interacting with the participants encouraged the children to be the brand ambassadors for the Swachh Bharat Mission and voluntarily participate to ensure cleanliness at household level, schools and other public places. Prof. Dr. Koushal Samotra Principal Govt. PG College Women Gandhinagar while interacting with the participants advised them to spread the message of clean and green India in their localities and institutions also. She stressed upon the need of changing the mindsets of every Indian toward their responsibilities for cleanliness and appealed all for appropriate disposal of the waste material by developing a habit of using dustbins and proper disposal mechanisms. Similar competition was organized earlier in Dogra Higher Secondary School Rajouri on16th Sept. 2017 wherein five Higher secondary schools of Jammu participated. M Raju Commissioner, JMC seeks public support to make Jammu smart city in real sense Mr. M. Raju Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Jammu appealed the Jammuites to support the efforts of JMC to make Jammu a clean and green city. While interacting with media people in a press meet organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation facilitated by National Development Foundation Jammu, Mr. Raju elaborated the JMC initiatives under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban. After detailing the core components of SBM, he emphasized that without public participation it is not possible to achieve positive results. He appreciated the role of print and electronic media and sought media support in behavioral change of the common masses. Replying to the questions of media he briefed them about the progress made in components like individual toilets, community toilets and prestigious Jammu smart city project. He also briefed media about the activities carried out by JMC during Swachhta hi Sewa fortnight and informed that a walkathon will be organized on 2nd October that will be led by Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh. Earlier Mr. Rajiv Khajuria Founder Emeritus National Development Foundation gave welcome note and brief account on the objectives of the press conference. Wall Painting Competition Conducted by Jammu Municipal Corporation To commemorate 3rd anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission as Swachhata Hi Sewa Jammu Municipal Corporation organized open wall painting competition on retaining walls near hotel Asia which shall continue for three days w.e.f28/09/2017 to 30/09/2017. 53 participants from different schools / colleges and other artists are taking part in the competition. Wall Painting Competition started as per the directions of Commissioner JMC Sh. M. Raju (IAS) in presence of Joint Commissioner (A), Secretary, Health Officer JMC. This initiative has been taken for beautification of Jammu city under Swachh Bharat Mission by Jammu Municipal Corporation in-collaboration with ICICI Bank Ltd. & JK Bank. The top three paintings shall get cash rewards of following amounts alongwith citation and mementos: 1st Prize Rs. 20000/2nd Prize Rs. 15000/3rd Prize Rs. 10000/-. Page 14
