WILKINS TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REGULAR MEETING, MONDAY, JULY 11, 2011 The Regular Meeting of Monday, July 11, 2011 was brought to order at 7:01 PM by President Sylvia J. Martinelli. A quorum was present as follows: Mrs. Martinelli Mr. Padula Ms. Fialla Mr. Costa Mr. Szoko (172-11) MOVED PADULA-SZOKO to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of June 13, 2011 as presented. The motion was adopted by unanimous roll call vote. Shirley Holtzman-Schwartz of 14 Curry Court submitted an email advising of her consternation that companies located in Wilkins are advertising that they are located in Monroeville, specifically, hhgregg. (173-11) MOVED PADULA-SZOKO to authorize the Solicitor to determine the validity and enforceability of Ordinance 895, the Truth in Advertising Ordinance. The motion was adopted by unanimous roll call vote. (174-11) MOVED FIALLA-COSTA to authorize Mr. Hill to send a letter to all businesses in Wilkins informing those businesses of the public safety aspects of correctly identifying their location. The motion was adopted by unanimous roll call vote Colonel Edward Nassan of the Allegheny County Sheriff s Reserve submitted correspondence requesting that the Township consider making a donation to the Reserve, since they voluntarily donated their time to the Township during the Summer Festival. (175-11) MOVED PADULA-COSTA to authorize the donation of $200.00 to the Allegheny County Sheriff s Reserve. The motion was adopted by unanimous roll call vote. Joe Lucy of 134 Grandview Avenue submitted correspondence to the Board seeking the installation of a street light by his residence to deter criminal mischief. Citizens Comments: Mr. Bill Wilson of Dorothy Street thanked the Board of Commissioners for making a donation to the Memorial Day Observation; commented upon the success of this years Summer Festival; thanked Joy Voeltzel for all of her hard work; and commented upon businesses that do not advertise as Wilkins. Joy Voeltzel, Chair of the Recreation Advisory Board, requested permission to participate in the BP Customer Appreciation Day by holding a car wash from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Friday, July 15 th and Saturday, July 16 th. (176-11) MOVED COSTA-PADULA to approve the request of the Recreation Advisory Board to hold a carwash, in conjunction with the BP Customer Appreciation Days on July 15 and 16, 2011 from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The motion was adopted by unanimous roll call vote.

(188-11) MOVED PADULA-SZOKO to accept the request of Mr. Hill to change over former Car 41-4 to a Fire Marshal, Code Enforcement vehicle. The motion was adopted by unanimous roll call vote. (189-11) MOVED SZOKO-FIALLA to authorize the demolition of 521 Negley and 652 Highland Avenue with CDBG Year 37 funding. The motion was adopted by unanimous roll call vote. (190-11) MOVED COSTA-SZOKO to authorize the request of Chief Krancic to transfer funds from 410.480 (Training) to 410.376 (Vehicle Maintenance) in the amount of $1,500. The motion was adopted by unanimous roll call vote. Commissioners Comments: Mr. Szoko thanked the Public Works Department for their professionalism during contract negotiations; stated that the Commissioners will need to make some tough decisions moving through the rest of this year and the next several years; commented upon the need for employees to pick up more of the cost of their benefits. Mr. Padula thanked the Recreation Advisory Board, including Mr. & Mrs. Voeltzel, all of the Township employees and the Sheriff s department, and all of the businesses and residents who Ms. Fialla asked Chief Krancic about the report of stones being stolen from the gabion baskets on Brown Avenue; congratulated Joy Voeltzel on a job well done and the success of the Summer Festival. Mr. Costa commended Joy Voeltzel and the Recreation Advisory Board for stepping up and making the Summer Festival successful in the wake of the resignation of the previous Recreation Chair. Mrs. Martinelli questioned the progress on the Balint Bridge; thanked Joy Voeltzel and the members of the Recreation Advisory Board for a successful Summer Festival; thanked everyone for coming to the meeting and thanked the members of the Board of Commissioners and the Solicitor for helping her run the meeting this evening.
