RBI's corrective action against Dena Bank Reserve Bank has initiated Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) against public sector lender Dena Bank in view of high non-performing loans, restricting the bank from giving fresh credit and new hiring. India witnessed highest number of Internet shutdowns in 2017-18: UNESCO report People in South Asian countries experienced at least 97 instances of Internet shutdown, a barometer on freedom of press and expression, between May 2017 and April 2018, with India alone accounting for 82 such cases, according to a UNESCO report. According to the Clampdowns and Courage-South Asia Press Freedom Report 2017-18, released recently by the UNESCO-International Federation of Journalists, Pakistan witnessed 12 instances of Internet shutdown, while Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka reported one such case each. India largest remittance-receiving country in the world: Report India was the largest remittance-receiving country in the world, with migrant workers from the country sending home $69 billion in 2017, according to a report which said remittances to the Asia-Pacific region amounted to $256 billion last year. The report 'RemitSCOPE - Remittance markets and opportunities - Asia and the Pacific' said India ($69 billion), China ($64 billion) and the Philippines ($33 billion) are the three largest remittance-receiving countries in the world in 2017. India okays MoU to tackle oil spills The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and South Asian Cooperative Environment Programme (SACEP) for co-operation on the response to oil and chemical pollution in the South Asian seas in Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo. The MoU intends to promote closer cooperation between India and other maritime nations comprising the South Asian seas region namely Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for protection and preservation of the marine environment in the region. China's first home-built aircraft carrier begins sea trials China's first home-built aircraft carrier began sea trials on 13 th May, a major step for Beijing as it ramps up its military might. The carrier will be the second to enter the Chinese navy, and comes as Beijing seeks to modernise its armed forces. The ship, which is known only as "Type 001A", set out for the trials from the north-eastern port of Dalian, where it was built.
