Thank you for expressing interest in The University of Akron Graduate Student Government (GSG) 2015-2016 Elections Please know that GSG positions will require your attendance and participation at events and meetings throughout the summer, fall, and spring semesters (It is a year round responsibility!). The offices of President, Vice President, and Treasurer are eligible to receive a stipend as noted in the Elections Package. All other positions are voluntary. Elections will take place through an online voting system, open from 8:00 am on Monday, March 16, 2015 to 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2015. POSITIONS AVAILABLE Executive Board: President, Vice President, and Treasurer Senators: Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Health Professions, and the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering. RESPONSIBILITIES As a GSG officer, you will be required to hold your office during summer, fall and spring semester. General responsibilities of all GSG members include: attending monthly Central Committee meetings, upholding the GSG Creed, and meeting the Leadership Expectations (Appendix A) set out by the GSG Executive Board specific to your office. Additionally, it is recommended that candidates carefully read both the GSG Constitution and Bylaws (available on the GSG website, www.uakron.edu/gsg) prior to application to learn more about GSG in general. ELECTION INFORMATION GSG elections are completed online and all University of Akron graduate students are encouraged to participate. As a candidate running for a GSG office, you will be required to fill out the attached application and submit it together with your resume to Joanne Dabb, the GSG Secretary, in the GSG office (Student Union room 307a) no later than 4:00 pm on Monday, February 23, 2015. APPENDIX A GRADUATE STUDENT GOVERNMENT LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS [This is the 2014-2015 version - actual responsibilities may vary due to the anticipated change in GSG Executive leadership] Executive Committee: President, Vice President, and Treasurer Central Committee: Executive Committee, Senators, and Directors of Outreach Optional Subcommittees: o Budget Subcommittee: Reviews GSG budget, student organization/peg requests (as needed), and produces educational materials for student organizations/graduate students. o Planning Subcommittee: Plans GSG Social, Leadership Symposiums, GSG Presidential/VP Debates, etc. o Selections Subcommittee: If ever there is a vacancy in GSG or a University Committee GSG seat, the selections committee will send out applications, conduct interviews, and select replacements (as needed). o Publications Subcommittee: Responsible for getting the GSG name out in the Buchtelite, Email Digest, Zipmail, produce a newsletter per semester, and develop all the marketing communications to be distributed on paper or by email. o Elections Committee: Revise and uphold the Elections Rules during the GSG general elections (*may not be a candidate in the upcoming election). President Constitution Description: The President shall be the principal executive officer and shall supervise and control all of the business and affairs of the GSG.
